Let's look for hidden pearls (10 mins.)
2Ki 5:15, 16. Why did Elisha not accept Naaman's gift, and what do we learn from this? (w05 8/1 9 ¶2)
The reason Elisha did not accept this gift is because he recognized that Naaman's miraculous healing was due to the power of God and not thanks to him. Elisha understood that all the glory and honor belonged to Jehovah, that is why it was unacceptable for him to benefit from the position or responsibility that God had given him.
This account teaches us that today the true servants of Jehovah in no way take personal advantage of the service we give our God. On the contrary, we give Jehovah our time and energy, because we know that all the resources we have come from him, since we take very seriously the recommendations that Jesus gave us that we find in Matthew 10:8. that just as we receive freely, we should give freely.
ADDITIONAL COMMENT
Because in doing so it would have been as if merit had been given for something that had only been possible thanks to the power of God, since Jehovah was the healer and Elisha was aware of it, that is why he did not seek to profit from the position that Jehovah gave him. had given, for which we learn that we will never want to take any personal advantage of our service to God, because we are also aware that everything comes from Jehovah and the merit is only for him, since nothing would be possible if it were not thanks to his great power.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
BASED RESPONSE: Insight on Scripture, Volume 1.
The information mentions that Elisha does not go out to receive Naaman, but through his servant he orders him to bathe seven times in the Jordan River, but at first he gets angry but in the end he submits to this simple procedure that gives him back the Health. After being healed, he faithfully commits himself to serve Jehovah, and very gratefully offers Elisha a gift, which he immediately rejects, since this miracle is due to Jehovah's power, not his own, and I do not benefit from the position that God had given him.
BASED RESPONSE: The Watchtower. Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom 1974.
The account clearly shows that Naaman returned to where Elisha was, perhaps 25 miles or more away. She came before him and told him that she knew for certain that there was no other God anywhere on earth but in Israel, and by making this confession she offered Elisha a gift of blessing. However, he was not interested in profiting from his service to Jehovah, and so he said to him: how surely Jehovah lives before whom I am indeed standing, surely I will not accept it. These words without a doubt show us that Jehovah was the healer for Elisha, and he did not seek to profit from the ministry that Jehovah had given him, which is a great example for God's servants today.
What spiritual gems have you found about Jehovah, the ministry, and other topics in this week's Bible reading?
2 Kings 5:1-3. We see that the Israelite girl came to serve in the house of the Syrian army commander Naaman who suffered from leprosy, since when she spoke to her mistress and told her that the prophet of Jehovah could heal him, she showed great faith and courage. This example of the Israelite Girl teaches young people that they must strengthen their faith to speak about their beliefs to teachers and classmates and thus also be able to speak with great courage.
2 Kings 5:3. We can also give it another application, since we note here that the Israelite girl speaks with her mistress and with great courage and is told that Naaman should go to Samaria to see the prophet of God to be cured. This teaches me that parents have a great responsibility to teach their children from a very young age to strengthen their faith in Jehovah so that they are not afraid to talk about their beliefs at school, with their teachers and classmates and thus be able to help others just as the Israelite girl did.
2 Kings 5:9-19. From this text we can learn that sometimes we can think that it is better for us to do things our way, but the instructions that come from Jehovah is what will bring us true benefit, not our own understanding.
2 Kings 5:16. We see that Elisha did not accept any gift from Naaman who felt very grateful because he had been cured of his leprosy, because Elisha recognized that Jehovah was the one who deserved everything because thanks to his power nothing else had been cured. This teaches me that if we sometimes have the opportunity to help someone with the message of the good news and they want to thank us, we must quickly let them know that Jehovah is who through his word gives instructions for the improvement of our lives and that we are only instruments to transmit that message.
2 Kings 5:17-18. Naaman acknowledges that he originally worshiped the false god Rimmon, however upon being cured of leprosy by Elisha he promises that he would begin and make sacrifices to Jehovah. This teaches me that although it is true there are people today, they cannot witness Miracles by preaching to them, but if we can make them know about Jehovah, since many people realize through the message of the good news, Who is the True God so they change their lifestyle and stop worshiping false gods like Naaman did, that is why the work of evangelizing is very necessary to help people.
2 Kings 6:15. He tells us that unlike his servant Eliseo I don't get worried seeing all those enemies surrounding them, because what won't help to keep calm was the strong faith that he had developed and really all of us need that kind of faith too. Therefore let us ask Jehovah for his Holy Spirit to demonstrate faith and other aspects of fruit of the spirit.
2 Kings 6:12. We note here that what was happening in the inner room from Syria went unnoticed by Elisha, who was very furious because in this way the king of Israel avoided falling into his traps, since Elisha warned him on several occasions. This teaches me that Jehovah takes care of his people by giving instructions that help us protect our integrity because Jehovah sees everything and for him nothing is overlooked.
2 Kings 6:16. It is a text that encourages us a lot, especially when we are going through difficult situations, because it does not remember that we should not be afraid, because even if our enemies are very powerful, we have the help of Jehovah and his angels.
2 Kings 6:12. We note that Elisha's servant saw that the Syrian army surrounded the city and this fact must have made Elisha feel fear, since he had to ask Jehovah to open his eyes and that way he could see a heavenly army surrounding Elisha to protect him and prevent him from being captured. This text teaches me that in the face of adversity we should not focus on seeing only what is visible to the naked eye. If not, we must strive to see matters through the eyes of faith, because only then can we see the hand of Jehovah and consequently endure and move forward.
2 Kings 6:17. We see here in this text how Jehovah uses his angels to help his faithful servants, so that they fulfill his purposes. This teaches me that Jehovah to this day gives us the protection we need through his angels so that we can achieve the purpose of bringing the message of the good news to the whole earth, in this way all Christians have a wonderful help that comes from Jehovah.
2 Kings 5:20. It makes it very clear to us that Elisha's desire was not to be seen, or to get rich, but rather to help people to know God, and what interested him was certainly not to be famous for his name, but give Glory to the name of the Lord. This teaches me that we should be primarily interested in Jehovah, putting our love for him first and helping others to call on him for his salvation, not receiving praise or flattery.
2 Kings 5:15,16 . It makes it very clear that Elisha's desire was not to be seen or to get rich, but rather to help people to know God, and what he was interested in was certainly not his name being famous, but Give Glory to the name of the Lord. This teaches me that we should be interested primarily in Jehovah, Putting our love for him first and helping others to call on him for his salvation, not in receiving praise or flattery.
2 Kings 5:20-27. He tells us about Gehazi, he had been serving with Elisha for some time and had plenty of opportunity to see how Jehovah is using Elisha, but he began to say material wealth, and we see that his greed cost him his health and the privilege that he had had of serve with Eliseo. This teaches us the disastrous course of being greedy, and we learn that trying to gain personal gain in Jehovah's service is a very dangerous thing and something to be avoided.
2 Kings 5:3. It shows us how this outgoing girl had a lot of faith in God's power to perform miracles and what's more she made her faith known with her courage. From this we learn that whether we are young or old we must always strengthen our faith in the divine promises and have enough courage to speak the truth to our acquaintances or relatives.
2 Kings 5:11. We see that he was just a very proud person, perhaps because of his position, but in verse 15 we read how he changes. From this we learn that we should never think that those who are proud cannot change, since like Naaman they can learn to be humble.
2 Kings 5:2. She says that this Israelite girl is being taken prisoner, so we imagined that it must have been an extremely difficult situation for her, being separated from her parents, but what strikes me is that she did not allow herself to be defeated by this adverse situation. But she took advantage of the opportunity she had to give testimony, what teaches us is that no matter how difficult the situation we are going through, we must never stop making the name of our God known.
2 Kings 5:14. Jehovah teaches me his immense power to heal the sick, and we are sure that he, just as he healed the sick in the past, will also do so in the future and on a larger scale.
2 Kings 5:9-19. We see that in the proud Naaman he was upset with Elisha when he did not receive him personally to heal him and because he sent him to bathe seven times in order to cure his leprosy in the Jordan River, since for him the rivers of Damascus were better. here, that later Naaman obeys and arrives to tell Elisha that now he knew that there was no God in any other part of the earth except Israel. I learn from this story that with correct teaching even the proudest person can learn to be humble.
2 Kings 5:20-27. He shows how Gehazi, Elíseo's secretary, lies to me first to Naamán and then to Elíseo. As a consequence, Elisha tells him that now both he and his descendants would catch Naaman's leprosy. This story should lead us to reflect on the sufferings and adversities that someone who leads a double life brings, since for Jehovah there is nothing hidden.
2 Kings 5:11-17. This story reminds us that Jehovah has millions and millions of powerful Angels at his command and that since ancient times he has used them to help and protect his faithful servants on earth and that he will also use them in the future to definitively deliver us from the evil of God. this world.
2 Kings 5:16. It shows that although Elisha miraculously cured Naaman, he refused to receive any payment or gift from him. This teaches me that when we do someone a favor, we must do it selflessly and not in exchange for something, because if we have been able to provide that help or do that favor, it was thanks to the fact that Jehovah made it possible.
2 Kings 6:12. He shows that even what happened in the inner room of the king of Syria was not a secret for Elisha, who in turn made him see the King of Israel to avoid falling into traps. This teaches me that there is nothing that can be hidden from Jehovah's eyes and that we should not do bad things thinking that no one will find out or that no one will see us.
2 Kings 6:15-17 . It shows that when the servant of the Lyceum saw that the Syrian army surrounded the city, he became so afraid that Elisha had to ask Jehovah to open his eyes, to which Jehovah agrees and in that way Gehazi could see a heavenly army surrounding Elisha to protect him from capture. This teaches me that in the face of adversity we should not focus on seeing only what is visible to the naked eye, if we should not strive to see matters through the eyes of faith, because only then can we see the hand of Jehovah and consequently endure and move on.
2 Kings 6:15-17. This same text in another application we can learn that this allows us to see Elisha's extraordinary confidence in Jehovah and the conviction that he had about the power of his God. These texts can be useful to us to calm brothers who are going through opposition or persecution, since through them we can remind them that although sometimes it seems that they are alone and unprotected, Jehovah never abandons his faithful servants.
2 Kings 5:1-9 . It shows that Nada Man originally worshiped the false god Rimmon, however, being cured of leprosy by Elisha, he begins to make sacrifices to Jehovah. We can use this story in the Ministry to teach that although it is true that today Jehovah does not perform miraculous physical healings, there are many people around the world who used to worship other gods and now through the study of the Bible are in search of their spiritual salvation
2 Kings 5:1-9. We can give this same text another application, since we see that during his reign Ben-hadad II of Syria sent Naaman, as the represented "Chief" of his army before the king of Israel to cure him of the leprosy. This shows that despite his terrible illness, Naaman continued to fulfill the responsibilities of his high office. This teaches us that if a man who worshiped false gods and suffered from a terrible disease he had to continue fulfilling his obligations, how much more reason should a servant of Jehovah do so. Because while it is true that Jehovah does not expect us to make sacrifices and reasonable, he does expect us to always do our best within our circumstances.
2 Kings 6:20. The blindness of the Syrian military forces at Elisha's word must have been of a mental nature since, if all the soldiers had gone blind, they would have had to be led by the hand, but the account only reports that Elisha told them that this is not the road, and this is not the city, any interruption between the optical centers and the centers of the intellect may occur.
2 Kings 6:17. Elisha asked God to open his servant's eyes and saw the heavenly hosts, the angelic armies prepared to protect the servant of God, and thus he could understand Elisha's confidence, if we only tend to see only the physical side of situations that threaten us or the Christian work in some countries, having at our disposal the Bible, which contains many visions, can help us to know the heavenly organization.
2 Kings 6:16. Elisha's words can help us resist Satan's attacks that he has used to stop the witnessing work of Christ's brothers and their loyal companions, not threats or intimidation or physical violence or prisons or concentration camps, not even death, have silenced Jehovah's Witnesses.
2 Kings 6:5 . The record mentions that the sons of the prophets, that is, an organized guild of prophets, built their own dwelling place and used borrowed tools, which seems to indicate that they lived modestly. Although they often shared room and board, they may also have received individual assignments to go out on prophetic missions.
2 Kings 5:12. Naaman showed pride when he said that the rivers of Damascus are better than all the waters of Israel to wash in them and be clean, and that is why he turned around and left furious, that shows that pride can make us not see clearly the solutions to our difficulties and that what we believe would be best for ourselves is best.
2 Kings 5:2-4. It relates that an Israelite girl was taken captive by a band of assailants and became a servant in the house of the commander of the Syrian army, Naaman, who suffered from leprosy, this girl knew of the miracles that God performed through the prophet Elisha, she armed herself with courage to speak to her mistress and tell her that if Naaman went to Israel, Jehovah's prophet would heal him, this girl is an encouraging example for young people who ask Jehovah for courage to preach to teachers, classmates and others.
2 Kings 5:1. Naaman was head of the Syrian army during the reigns of Jehoram of Israel and Ben-hadad II of Syria, the Bible does not give any details on how or why Naaman was used to save Syria. One possibility is that he led the Syrian forces that successfully resisted Assyrian King Shalmaneser III's attempt to conquer Syria that brought about a natural separation between Israel and Assyria, which must have delayed Assyria's expansion until the due time that Jehovah allowed the northern kingdom went into exile.
2 Kings 5:2. We see that her text mentions a little girl, a girl who was a prisoner of the Syrians, it is not said what her name was but Jehovah does know, he will certainly reward her for her faithful works. Although she was a captive slave in a foreign country, the wife of Naaman, the head of the Syrian army, did not hesitate to give testimony. Concerning the great power of her God Jehovah had shown her through her faithful prophet.
2 Kings 5:9,10. We see the reaction of Elisha the prophet to have the imposing Naaman and his chariots in front of his house, we see that he did not give him special treatment, if he did not send him a messenger with instructions. Elisha was not trying to win favors by flattering high-ranking individuals, he was interested in having Jehovah's continued favor and seeing that His will was done.
2 Kings 5:11. It teaches us about the importance of being humble, since sometimes we want to insist that things be done our way and we think that because we have a certain nationality, certain privilege or economic position we deserve special treatment, and that the requirements and instructions do not apply. to us, but with Jehovah we must all make an effort to meet requirements and be obedient to instructions, we avoid any type of bribery that is very common in this world.
2 Kings 5:14. Naaman dipped seven times in the Jordan River, our Lord Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist in the same place, and this makes us think of the humility that we all show to advance to the dedication of baptism, we are somehow sick of the sin and death, but thanks to baptism we have a hope thanks to the rescue of Jesus. This motivates us to cultivate sincere gratitude and humility of heart, we avoid false humility, some may actually be proud, as there are people who do anything to get what they want, others use false humility to impress other people.
2 Kings 5:15,16. One way that someone shows their humility and gratitude is by contributing to the congregation, the world work and sharing with the brothers of the congregation. Naaman had that generous spirit, as he was aware of what Jehovah had done for him. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:16, that we do not forget to do good and share with others because such sacrifices are very pleasing to God.
COMMENTS FOR CHILDREN
From the story of Naaman that is told in Chapter 5 of Second Kings , I learn that, just as he listened to the advice of others and heeded us, we too must be obedient even if it is sometimes difficult for us to do so.
2 Kings 5:3. It teaches me that just like this Israelite girl, I too must be brave and speak of Jehovah at all times of our lives.
2 Kings 5:25,26. He teaches me that I should not tell lies, because Jehovah is always watching everything and knows what we do.
