Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

Fear the glorious and awesome name of Jehovah your God (Deut. 28:58).

Think of how Moses felt when he was huddled in a cleft of a rock on Mount Horeb and beheld in a vision the glory of Jehovah, which had passed before him. Insight on the Scriptures explains that this was “perhaps the most awesome experience that any man ever had before the coming of Jesus Christ.” Moses heard the following words, surely from the mouth of an angel: “Jehovah, Jehovah, a merciful and compassionate God, patient and full of loyal love and truth, who shows loyal love to thousands, who forgives errors, offenses and sins” (Ex 33:17-23; 34:5-7). It is possible that Moses remembered that experience when he used the name Jehovah in today's text. As we think of God's name, it is good for us to think about the kind of person he is. We must remember his qualities, including power, wisdom, justice and love. Reflecting on these and other qualities will make us respect him even more (Ps. 77:11-15). w20.06 8, 9 paras. 3, 4.5, 6. a)

What does the name of God mean? (b) According to Exodus 3:13, 14 and Isaiah 64:8, in what ways does Jehovah make things happen?

What do we know about the meaning of God's name? Many scholars agree that Jehovah's name apparently means "he causes to come into being." This meaning reminds us that nothing can stop Jehovah from doing his will and that he can make things happen. How does he do it?

One way is by becoming whatever it takes to fulfill his purpose (read Exodus 3:13, 14). In our publications, we are often encouraged to think about this most impressive aspect of God's personality. Furthermore, Jehovah can make his imperfect human servants become whatever is necessary to serve him and fulfill his purpose (read Isaiah 64:8). In these ways, Jehovah brings about his will. Nothing can prevent everything he sets out to come true (Is. 46:10, 11).

What will help us feel greater admiration and respect for our heavenly Father?

What will help us feel greater admiration and respect for our heavenly Father? Meditate on what he has done and what he has helped us to do. For example, we marvel as we ponder all that he has created (Ps. 8:3, 4). And as we reflect on what he has made us become to fulfill his will, we feel deep respect for him. Without a doubt, Jehovah's name is impressive. His meaning tells us all that he is, all that he has done, and all that he will do (Ps. 89:7, 8).

According to Deuteronomy 32:2, 3, what does Jehovah want us to do with his name?

Just before the Israelites entered the Promised Land, Jehovah taught Moses the words of a song and commanded him to teach it to the people (Deut. 31:19). As we ponder some of the lyrics, we see clearly that Jehovah does not want us to hide his name or treat it as if he is too holy to pronounce it (read Deuteronomy 32:2, 3). He wants the whole world to know him. Without a doubt, it was a great honor for the Israelites that Moses taught them about Jehovah and his glorious name. What they learned had a refreshing and strengthening effect on them, like a gentle rain on vegetation. How can we ensure that our way of teaching has the same effect on others?9.

How do we help keep Jehovah's name holy?

When we preach from house to house or in public places, let us use the Bible to teach people the name of God. We can use tools that honor Jehovah, such as our valuable publications, excellent videos, and our website. Whether we are at work, school, or on the road, let us look for opportunities to talk about our dear God and his personality. Let's talk about the wonderful purpose of it for us and for the Earth. When people hear these things, they may realize for the first time how much Jehovah loves us. Whenever we teach the truth about our loving Father, we help to sanctify his name and debunk some of the slanders that have been taught about him. Nothing has such a refreshing effect on people as the biblical message we bring to them (Is. 65:13, 14).
