TREASURES FROM GOD'S WORD, April 7-13, 2025, Let's listen to wisdom personified, Prepared Discourse.

Let's listen to wisdom personified (10 mins.)

Today we gather to reflect on one of the most valuable treasures we can acquire in life: wisdom. But not just any wisdom, but that which the Bible describes as personified wisdom.

What do we mean by this expression? To the wisdom that comes to life and speaks to our hearts, calling us to wisdom and understanding.

LET'S READ PROVERBS 8:1, 4

Isn't wisdom calling? And discernment, isn't it raising its voice? 4 I am calling you, all the people; I raise my voice to address everyone.

This powerful invitation makes us see that wisdom is not a simple concept or expression, but rather it is presented in an active and close way, eager to be heard by anyone who has ears to hear.

In that same chapter, wisdom declares something surprising: "The Lord produced me as the beginning of his activity, the first of his achievements of long ago" (Proverbs 8:22).

Throughout the centuries, those who study the Scriptures have understood that these words refer to someone very special. Jehovah God has been wise for eternity, for He had no beginning, so that wisdom itself was not produced.

However, there is a being who was created by Jehovah and who, by fully expressing divine wisdom, becomes his personification. We refer to the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the firstborn of all creation.

LET'S READ PROVERBS 8:22

Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his activity, the first of his long-ago achievements.

This reference leads us to the identity of Jesus as the Word, that is, the main spokesman of Jehovah. Before heaven, earth and every form of life existed, the Son of God was already there, alongside his Father.

No wonder Psalm 90:2 says that God is "from time indefinite to time indefinite, eternal, and had no beginning." But his Son, as a creation, did have a beginning. Therefore, this wisdom that was presented with its own voice in Proverbs can only point to the Son of God.

The Bible also highlights that Jesus participated in the creation of everything that exists. Colossians 1:16 explains that, through this Son, everything else was created, in heaven and on earth. Jehovah, the great architect, used his Son as an expert builder or worker to materialize his magnificent creation project. Hence the Son of God is the perfect representation of wisdom, because he put into practice the supreme knowledge of his Father.

The Bible describes this creative process in beautiful words.

LET'S READ PROVERBS 8:30-31

I was with him like an expert worker. Day after day his greatest joy was me, and I always felt happy in front of him. 31I was happy for the earth, made to be inhabited, and I had a special affection for human beings.

We can imagine the close bond between the Father and the Son after working for millions and millions of years in the immense work of creation.

While imperfect human beings often encounter obstacles to collaborating in harmony, the relationship between Jehovah and his Son was one of perfect harmony. There were no rivalries or disagreements, but a deep communion of objectives, feelings and desires.

Can you imagine the joy of seeing the emergence, from galaxies and star systems to Earth, with all its splendid diversity of plants, animals, and finally, human beings?

Without a doubt, each creative step reinforced the love between the Father and the Son, a love as old as time itself and stronger than any other. Now, the Bible does not leave this issue on a merely doctrinal or historical level, but rather encourages us to respond.

LET'S READ PROVERBS 8:32, 35

And now, my children, listen to me. Happy are those who follow my ways! 35 For whoever finds me will find life and receive approval from the Lord.

It is a direct call to all of us, an invitation to acquire and apply the wisdom that Jesus, the Son of God, embodies. Why should we obey this personified wisdom?

First: because its source is Jehovah, the Father of wisdom.

Second: for Christ was produced before all things, and as our great teacher, has all the moral authority to instruct us.

Third: because our present happiness and, more importantly, the approval of Jehovah depend on our response. We can imagine a greater gift than having divine favor.

Throughout his ministry on earth, Jesus showed that his wisdom transcended even that of King Solomon, whom many considered the wisest in history. Jesus Christ himself said that he was something more than Solomon. His teachings, which he called "sayings of eternal life," reflect the same principles we see in Proverbs, but taken to their maximum expression.

A clear example is the famous Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus describes the conditions to find true happiness. There he highlights that happiness does not come from having great material possessions or achieving fame, but from cultivating qualities such as humility, patience and the sincere desire for justice.

In fact, he told us: "Happy are those who are aware of their spiritual need." (Matthew 5:3) These words, in harmony with Proverbs, emphasize that, to be truly happy, we must base our lives on the worship of Jehovah and the conviction that He keeps his promises.

No wonder 1 Corinthians 1:21-30 calls Christ "the wisdom of God." Just as a disciple learns from his teacher and faithfully reproduces his methods, Jesus reveals to us the thoughts and feelings of Jehovah. Each time we allow ourselves to be guided by that divine wisdom, we get closer to our Creator, the source of life.

In view of all this, the invitation of Proverbs 8 remains valid today in a world full of voices promising faster and easier paths, but often empty ones. In the face of so much noise, the voice of wisdom personified, Jesus Christ, rises clearly and firmly. He tells us: "And now, my children, listen to me. Happy are those who follow my ways."

Accepting this invitation brings blessings not only in the present, but also the promise of eternal life under Jehovah's approval. Let us remember that listening does not simply mean hearing with the ears, but responding with the mind and heart. Let us instill in ourselves and our families that love for divine wisdom. In this way, we will find true happiness that does not fade, even when we face the inevitable difficulties of life.

In the illustration in our activity guide we see Jesus represented, seated, teaching a group of men, women and children. The scene reminds us of that closeness and accessibility that characterized Christ: his reflective and loving gaze, the gesture of his hand when exposing profound truths, the reverent attention of those who listen to him.

Everything in the image evokes the sublime moment in which the Son of God shared the principles of the Kingdom and showed his Father's love in a simple way that was accessible to everyone.

Like those people on the scene, let us turn our hearts to Jesus Christ, wisdom personified, and make the values and principles he taught our own. Thus we will receive the blessing that Proverbs 8:35 promises us: "For whoever finds me will find life and receive approval from the Lord."
