Imitate Felipe
Be observant.
When we are observers, we can detect the verbal and non-verbal cues of the people we interact with. This allows us to adjust our communication and behavior to establish a conversation that brings the person along.
A person's facial expressions and body language can provide important clues about their willingness to speak. If a person appears relaxed, with an open posture, attentive gaze, and receptive facial expression, they are likely to be more willing to engage in conversation. On the other hand, if she shows signs of tension, avoids eye contact, crosses her arms and has a closed facial expression, it may indicate that she is not interested in talking at that moment.
Have patience.
Patience allows us to respect the rhythm and needs of others. Not everyone is ready and willing to talk about certain topics at any given time, and being patient allows us to wait until the person is ready to participate in the conversation.
Patience also helps us avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary conflicts. By waiting for the right moment to broach certain topics, we can avoid putting pressure on people or making them feel uncomfortable, which could lead to resistance or rejection of the conversation.
Be adaptable.
Tailoring the message to what the person cares about increases the chance that the conversation will be relevant and meaningful to them. This facilitates better understanding and acceptance of the message you want to convey.
Being adaptable demonstrates empathy toward the other person by showing genuine interest in their concerns and perspectives. This helps establish a deeper, more positive connection.
Adapting to the person's topic of interest can make them feel more comfortable and willing to participate in the conversation. This creates an environment more conducive to open and constructive dialogue.
By addressing topics that are relevant to the person, they are more likely to be receptive to listening and considering what is being communicated. This increases the effectiveness of the conversation in terms of achieving the desired understanding and influence.
