Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022
Sunday November 13
Nothing gives me more joy than hearing that my children are still walking in the truth (3 John 4).
Can you imagine how happy the apostle John was when he heard that the Christians he helped to learn the truth were still faithful to Jehovah? To John, these loyal Christians were like his children. Since they had many problems, the apostle did everything he could to strengthen his faith. We too are happy when our children, physical or spiritual, dedicate their lives to Jehovah and continue to serve him (3 John 3). Around the year 98, Jehovah's holy spirit prompted John to write three letters. The purpose of the letters was to encourage loyal Christians to keep faith in Jesus and continue to walk in the truth. John was concerned about the bad influence false teachers were having on the congregations (1 John 2:18, 19, 26). These apostates claimed to know God, but did not respect his commands. w20.07 20 paras. 1-3
According to 1 John 2:3-6 and 2 John 4, 6, what must we do to walk in the truth?
To walk in the truth, we must first know the truth, which is in God's Word, the Bible. In addition, we must obey Jehovah's commandments (read 1 John 2:3-6; 2 John 4, 6). Jesus set the perfect example in this matter. So an important way to obey Jehovah is to follow in Jesus' footsteps as faithfully as possible (John 8:29; 1 Pet. 2:21).
Of what must we be convinced?
To continue walking in the truth, we must be convinced that Jehovah is the God of truth and that, therefore, everything he tells us in his Word is true. We must also be convinced that Jesus is the promised Messiah. Many people today do not believe that Jesus was anointed to be the King of the Kingdom of God. John warned that there were “many impostors” who could deceive those who were not convinced of the truth about Jehovah and Jesus (2 John 7-11). John wrote: “Who is the liar? Is it not he who denies that Jesus is the Christ?” (1 John 2:22). The only way to avoid being deceived is to study the Word of God. Only then will we come to know Jehovah and Jesus (John 17:3). And only then will we be convinced that we have the truth.
What obstacle do young Christians face?
All Christians must be careful not to be deceived by human ideas (1 John 2:26). Who else should beware of this trap are young Christians. Alexia, a 25-year-old sister from France, says: “When I was in school, I studied evolution and other human philosophies. These ideas made me doubt the truth. Sometimes they seemed interesting to me. But I thought that I could not just listen to what they taught me in class without giving Jehovah a chance to speak.” Alexia studied the book Life...how did she introduce herself here? By evolution, or by creation? In a matter of weeks, her doubts had disappeared. She recalls: “I convinced myself that the Bible is true. And I realized that respecting their rules would make me happy and give me peace.”
What temptation must we fight against, and why?
All Christians, whether young or old, must fight against the temptation to lead a double life. John referred to this when he pointed out that we cannot walk in the truth and at the same time live an immoral life (1 John 1:6). If we want to have God's approval now and in the future, we must behave as if the whole world sees what we do. Actually, there are no secret sins, since Jehovah sees everything (Heb. 4:13). What must we reject?
We must also reject the world's attitude toward sin. The apostle John wrote, “If we say, 'We have no sin,' we are deceiving ourselves” (1 John 1:8). In John's day, apostates held that a person could knowingly sin and still be a friend of God. Today many think the same. They claim to believe in God, but they do not accept what he says about sin, especially in matters of sex. What Jehovah calls sin, people call personal preference or alternative lifestyle.
