Who gave the man his mouth? Am I not, Jehovah? (Ex. 4:11).
The human brain is an engineering marvel. When we were in our mother's womb, our brains were formed according to a predefined design. And thousands of new brain cells appeared every minute! Researchers estimate that an adult brain has about 100 billion neurons, which are a special type of cell, packed into an organ that weighs just 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds). One of the amazing faculties that our brain possesses is the ability to speak. To utter a single word, the brain has to coordinate the movements of about a hundred muscles in the tongue, throat, lips, jaw, and chest. All of these muscles have to move in a specific order for words to be understood. A study published in 2019 revealed that newborns can already distinguish single words. This discovery confirms what many researchers believe: that we are born with the ability to identify and learn languages. Without a doubt, our ability to speak is a gift from God. w20.05 22, 23 paras. 8, 9.
How can we show that we appreciate the ability to speak?
One way to show that we appreciate the ability to speak is by using it to explain to those who believe in evolution why we believe that God created all things (Ps. 9:1; 1 Pet. 3:15). Those who promote the teaching of evolution want us to believe that the Earth and life are not by design. We can use the Bible and some ideas in this article to defend our heavenly Father and explain to those who want to listen why we are convinced that Jehovah is the Creator of heaven and earth (Ps. 102:25; Isa. 40:25 , 26).
What other reason do we have to say that our brain is amazing?
Our memory is amazing. In the past, a scientist concluded that the human brain is capable of remembering information that would fit in 20 million books. But nowadays it is believed that our memory can store much more information. Also, thanks to her, we have a special ability. Let's see what it is.
Thanks to our ability to draw moral lessons, what can we human beings do?
Of all the living beings on the planet, only humans have the ability to draw moral lessons from the experiences of the past. Remembering and analyzing these experiences helps us adopt higher moral values and correct our way of thinking and acting (1 Cor. 6:9-11; Col. 3:9, 10). In fact, we can train our conscience to know right from wrong (Heb. 5:14). We can learn to express love, compassion, and mercy, as well as develop a balanced sense of justice.
According to Psalm 77:11, 12, how should we use the gift of memory?
One way to show that we appreciate the gift of memory is by trying to remember all the times that Jehovah has helped and comforted us. This will strengthen our confidence that he will help us again in the future (read Psalm 77:11, 12; 78:4, 7). Another way to show that we appreciate that gift is by remembering all the good that other people do us and thanking them. Researchers have found that grateful people are generally happier. When it comes to using our memory, we do well to imitate Jehovah. There are things that he decides to forget. For example, even though he has a perfect memory, he chooses to forgive and forget our mistakes if we repent (Ps. 25:7; 130:3, 4). And he wants us to do the same to those who offend us (Matt. 6:14; Luke 17:3, 4).
How can we show that we appreciate our wonderful brain?
We can show that we appreciate our wonderful brain by using it to honor the one who gave it to us. Some people prefer to use it selfishly and decide for themselves what is right or wrong. But since Jehovah created us, it stands to reason that his standards are better than what we can set for ourselves.—Rom. 12:1, 2. When we abide by his standards, we enjoy peace (Is. 48:17, 18). And our life has a clear purpose: to honor and make our Creator and Father happy (Prov. 27:11).
