Let us examine the Scriptures every day 2026

Responding to a matter before hearing the facts is foolish and humiliating (Prov. 18:13).

Imagine you're invited to a social gathering. Should you attend? If you don't know the host well or what their plans are, you'll need to ask questions like these: “Where and when will the gathering be? How many people will be there? Who will be supervising it? Who will be attending? What activities are planned? Will alcoholic beverages be served?” The answers to these questions will help you make a good decision.

Once you have all the information, try to see the big picture. For example, what if you learn that some people who do not respect Bible principles will be attending that meeting, or that alcoholic beverages will be served without supervision? Is there a risk that the meeting could get out of hand and turn into a wild party? (1 Pet. 4:3) Or what should you do if attending that event would mean missing your congregation meeting or being unable to go out in the ministry? Seeing the big picture will make it easier for you to make a good decision. But that is only the first step. You need to do more. You know how you see the situation; but what is Jehovah’s opinion? (Prov. 2:6)

According to James 1:5, why should we ask Jehovah for help?

Ask Jehovah to help you understand his viewpoint. He promises to give wisdom “generously to all and without reproach” (read James 1:5). That wisdom will enable us to discern whether a certain decision will please him or not.

How can you know what Jehovah thinks? Give an example.

After you pray for Jehovah’s guidance, pay close attention to his answer. Consider this example. If you are traveling and get lost, you might ask someone in the area for help. But you wouldn’t leave before they gave you an answer, would you? You would listen very carefully to their directions. Similarly, after asking Jehovah for wisdom, try to “listen” to his answer by looking for Bible standards and principles that apply to your situation. Think again about the invitation to the social gathering we discussed earlier. When deciding whether to attend, you can consider what the Bible says about wild parties, bad associations, and the importance of putting the Kingdom above your personal preferences. (Matt. 6:33; Rom. 13:13; 1 Cor. 15:33)

What can you do if you need help finding the information you are looking for?

However, you may sometimes need help finding the information you are looking for. An experienced brother or sister could give you suggestions or ideas. But it is good for you to do your own research as well. There is a wealth of information in our study tools, such as the Study Guide for Jehovah’s Witnesses and the book Bible Texts for Christian Living. Remember that your goal is to make a decision that pleases Jehovah.
