TREASURES OF THE BIBLE, 20-26-February-2023, "Do not allow disappointments to steal your happiness", Prepared Speech.
"Don't let disappointments steal your happiness" (10 min.)
Who has not felt disappointed at some time? Even our heavenly father, Jehovah God, has gone through that painful experience. For example, although he freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and blessed them abundantly, the Bible says that they time after time put God to the test and caused the Holy One of Israel pain, yet Jehovah never ceased to be the happy God. .
Looking forward to something good fills us with happiness, but if it is not fulfilled soon, we may be flooded with a strong feeling of disappointment, let's say, in the case of King David who suffered a disappointment, let's see what it is about, let's read in 1 Chronicles 17:1,2 says so….
WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 17:1,2.As soon as David settled into his own home, he said to the prophet Nathan: "Here am I living in a cedar house while the ark of the covenant of Jehovah is under tent cloth." Nathan replied to David: "Do what your heart tells you, because the true God is with you."
David's words showed that he wanted to build a beautiful temple for Jehovah, the great affection and love he had for Jehovah awoke in him the desire to build him a house, said house or temple would be the center of True Worship in Israel, knowing that the temple and everything related to it would bring joy and abundant benefits to the people of God.
That is why David sang to Jehovah happy is the one whom you choose and make him approach so that he may reside in your courtyards we will certainly be satisfied with the goodness of your house the holy place of your temple. Despite the joy that David felt, things did not turn out as he thought, because the prophet of Jehovah did not take long to return with bad news, let us read what they were, now let us see please in 1 Chronicles 17:4, if you found it, accompany me with reading please say….
LET'S READ 1 CHRONICLES 17:4.
“Go and tell my servant David: 'This is what Jehovah says: “You will not be the one to build me the house in which I am going to dwell.
Jehovah told Nathan that it would not be David who would build the temple, but one of his sons. How did David react when he heard the message? Let's read in the first book of Chronicles Chapter 17 verse 7 and Chapter 18 verse 14, it says...
WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 17:7.
7“Now tell my servant David, 'This is what Jehovah of hosts says: “I brought you out from the pasture fields, where you followed the flock, so that you might become leader of my people Israel.
WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 18:14.
David continued to reign over all of Israel and dispense justice and righteousness to all his people.
David modified his plans, he set out to gather the money and materials that his son Solomon would need to carry out the project. As we noted David kept busy and focused on doing what Jehovah had asked him, just after telling him that he would not build the temple Jehovah made a pact with David, he promised that one of his descendants would reign forever in the new world during the Reign of a thousand years of Christ.
Now, David will be very happy when he finds out that the King is his descendant, what does this story teach us, it teaches us that although we cannot do everything we would like for Jehovah, our God can give us unexpected blessings. It must be recognized, however, that many of our dreams and expectations do not turn out as we wish, as happened to David.
As a result of the repeated disappointments that we suffer in life, we become irritated with ourselves and even with others. Another factor that can cause us to become disappointed is poor health and old age, since our limitations increase as we lose mobility. and energy, which contributes to our feeling frustrated. All of the above is a sample of what feelings of disappointment can trigger, which if not controlled can even lead us to believe that others do not appreciate us.
Therefore, what positive measures can we do to not allow disappointments to steal our happiness? We can feel joy if we try our best to concentrate on what we can do, dedicate ourselves completely to the preaching work and participate fully in the activities of the congregation, and because Jehovah knows our attitudes and limitations, he only expects from us what we can give and something that he asks of us is that we be modest when walking with our God.
Something we can also do is prepare well to encourage others with our answers in meetings. Let's take seriously any student assignment that we have in the midweek meeting, if they ask us for help to do some work in the congregation, let's be punctual and reliable, let's not think that certain tasks are unimportant and that they do not deserve our time, let's make an effort to improve our skills.
The busier we are in our spiritual activities and responsibilities, the faster we will progress and the more joy we will feel, and the easier it will be for us to rejoice when others receive a responsibility that we would have liked to have.
Therefore, although life in this system can be unpredictable if we trust in Jehovah he will always be ready to help us, so let's not focus on difficulties, but on Jehovah's power to sustain us. So we can say the same as the apostle Paul I have strength for everything thanks to the one who gives me power.
