Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2021

Monday, October 29, 2021

I confessed my sin to you; I did not hide my mistake. And you forgave my mistake and my sins (Ps. 32: 5).

We show appreciation for Jehovah's forgiveness when we pray for it, accept discipline, and strive not to repeat mistakes. When we do this, we regain inner peace. How it encourages us to know that “Jehovah is close to those who are heartbroken” and “saves those who are sunk in discouragement” (Ps. 34:18). As the end of the last days nears, reasons for concern are likely to increase. When worries invade us, let us not delay in seeking Jehovah's help. Let's study the Bible diligently. Let's learn from the examples of Hannah, the Apostle Paul, and King David. Let us ask Jehovah to help us know what causes us concern. --Psalm 139: 23. Let it carry us the burdens, especially those over which we have little or no control. If we do it, we will feel like the psalmist who sang to Jehovah: “When worries overwhelmed me, you comforted me and reassured me” (Ps. 94:19). w20.02 24 par. 17; 25 paras. 20, 21

What do Hannah's example and the words of Philippians 4: 6, 7 teach us about prayer?

We can regain peace if we persevere in prayer. Hannah spent a lot of time talking to her heavenly Father (1 Sam. 1:12). We too can talk to you at length about our worries, our fears, and our mistakes. Sentences don't have to be poetic or have a perfect structure. We may even express ourselves bitterly and sob. But Jehovah will never tire of listening to us. In addition to talking to him about our difficulties, we should remember the advice we found in Philippians 4: 6, 7 (read it). There Paul specifically said that we should thank God as we pray. We have so many reasons to do so, including the gift of life, his creations, his loyal love, and the wonderful hope he has given us. What else can we learn from Ana's example?

What did Ana and her husband always do?

Despite her sorrows, Hannah always accompanied her husband to the place where Jehovah was worshiped, in Shiloh (1 Sam. 1: 1-5). It was there, in the tabernacle, that High Priest Eli encouraged her by saying that he expected Jehovah to answer her prayer. --1 Sam. 1: 9, 17.

Explain how meetings can help us.

We can regain peace if we keep going to meetings. Usually in the opening prayer of meetings, Jehovah is asked that his spirit be with us. And peace is part of the fruit of that spirit (Gal. 5:22). By going to meetings even though we are distressed, we give Jehovah and our brothers an opportunity to encourage us and help us to feel peaceful again. Prayer and meetings are two important means God uses to reassure us (Heb. 10:24, 25). Let's look at another lesson that Ana's case teaches us.

What did not change in Ana's life, but what did change?

The cause of Ana's distress did not go away right away. When he returned from worshiping God in the tabernacle, he continued to live under the same roof as Penina. And the Bible does not say that this woman's attitude changed. So it is likely that Ana had to continue to endure the hurtful comments of her rival. But he managed to regain and maintain inner peace. Let us remember that she did not feel distressed again after leaving the problem in Jehovah's hands. She allowed him to comfort and reassure her. And some time later Jehovah answered her prayer and she had children (1 Sam. 1:19, 20; 2:21).
