Men who perform their service well are gaining a good reputation and great freedom to speak about the faith (1 Tim. 3:13).

Ministerial servants are baptized men appointed by holy spirit to assist the elders in caring for various practical matters in the congregation. They are, first and foremost, spiritual men. They love Jehovah and live by his righteous standards. They also have deep love for their fellow Christians. (Matt. 22:37-39) What must a baptized man do to become a ministerial servant? The Bible sets forth the qualifications for appointment. (1 Tim. 3:8-10, 12) How can you reach this goal? By studying these Bible qualifications and then striving to meet them. First, however, it is good to examine your motives. w24.11 14, 15 pars. 4, 5

What is the role of a ministerial servant?

Some are responsible for ensuring that publishers have sufficient territories and publications for preaching. Many assist in cleaning and maintaining Kingdom Halls. Others serve as ushers or operate audio and video equipment during congregation meetings. Although many of their duties are practical, ministerial servants are first and foremost spiritual men. They love Jehovah and live by his righteous standards. They also have deep love for their fellow Christians. (Matt. 22:37-39)

How can one achieve the goal of being a ministerial servant?

The Bible outlines the qualifications for being appointed as a ministerial servant (1 Tim. 3:8-10, 12, 13). How can you reach this goal? By studying these Bible qualifications and then striving to meet them. But first, you should examine your own motives.

What should be the motive for humbly serving the brothers? (Matthew 20:28).

Let us consider our finest example, Jesus Christ. He was motivated by love: love for his Father and love for people. And that love moved him to exert himself fully and to perform humble tasks in behalf of others (read Matthew 20:28; John 13:5, 14, 15). If you too are motivated by love, Jehovah will bless you and help you to reach your goal of being a ministerial servant (1 Cor. 16:14; 1 Pet. 5:5).

Why should a brother avoid selfish ambition?

In the world, people who promote themselves are often admired. But this is not the case in Jehovah’s organization. A brother who, like Jesus, is motivated by love does not crave power, authority over others, or status. If such an ambitious person were to receive an appointment in the congregation, he would likely refuse to perform some of the humble tasks needed to care for Jehovah’s precious sheep. He might feel that such tasks demean him. (John 10:12) Jehovah will never bless the efforts of those motivated by pride or selfish ambition. (1 Cor. 10:24, 33; 13:4, 5)
