There is more happiness in giving than in receiving (Acts 20:35).

When someone gives us a gift, we feel good. But we feel even happier when we are the ones who do things for others. By creating us this way, Jehovah has put the key to greater happiness in our hands. If we look for more opportunities to do things for others, we will experience greater joy. Are we not wonderfully made? (Psalm 139:14)

The Bible says that givers are happy, so it is no surprise that Jehovah is the “happy God” (1 Tim. 1:11). He was the first to give, and no one gives more than he does. As the apostle Paul said, “By him we have life, move, and exist” (Acts 17:28). Moreover, “all good gifts and all perfect gifts” come from Jehovah (Jas. 1:17). If we want to be even happier when we give, we can imitate Jehovah’s generosity (Eph. 5:1). w24.09 26 pars. 1-4

What will help us be happier?

What can we do if we want to be even happier when we give? As we will see in this article, we can imitate Jehovah’s generosity (Eph. 5:1). We will also examine what we can do if we feel that others do not appreciate what we do for them. All of this will help us to keep giving without losing our joy and to be even happier.

What material things does Jehovah give us?

Let us consider some ways in which Jehovah shows his generosity. For example, he provides us with material things. We may not always have luxuries, but he makes sure that most of us have necessities, such as food, clothing, and a place to live. (Ps. 4:8; Matt. 6:31-33; 1 Tim. 6:6-8) And he does not do this out of a mere sense of obligation. So why does he do it?

What does Matthew 6:25, 26 teach us?

Jehovah provides for our physical needs because he loves us. Let us consider Jesus’ words found at Matthew 6:25, 26 (read it). In these verses, Jesus used the birds of the air as an example, saying: “They do not sow or reap or store away in barns.” But then he added: “Your heavenly Father feeds them.” Then he asked: “Are you not worth more than they?” The lesson he wanted to teach is that to Jehovah, his servants are far more valuable than animals. If Jehovah cares for them, we are confident that he will also care for us. Because Jehovah is our Father and loves us, he gives us what we need. (Psalm 145:16; Matthew 6:32)
