If we look at an hourglass, we see that each grain that falls is impossible to recover. This image often evokes a quiet unease: the feeling that time is slipping away and that, sooner or later, we will reach the end of the road.

For the vast majority, that end—death—is a dark abyss we prefer not to look at. We avoid it at dinner parties, hide it behind work, and bury it beneath our routines, because it confronts us with our greatest vulnerability.

But what if that abyss isn't really there? What if we're looking at death from the wrong perspective? Today I want to suggest that we stop seeing the end through the eyes of fear and start seeing it through the eyes of truth. The Bible has an answer that not only calms our anxiety but also gives us back the strength to live.

The Bible does not ignore our reality nor does it gloss over the pain; in fact, it describes death as an enemy that stalks us.

LET'S READ 1 CORINTHIANS 15:26

“And the last enemy, death, will be destroyed.”

As we have seen, the Bible calls death “the last enemy,” a consequence of the imperfection we inherited from Adam. However, Jehovah sent his Son Jesus Christ to rescue us.

Jesus gave his perfect life on a cross, paying the price necessary to free us from the slavery of sin and death. He himself gave us a promise that sustains our faith. It's natural for this topic to trouble us and make us think about our own fragility, but Jesus gave us the tool so that this enemy does not enslave us.

LET'S READ JOHN 8:32

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

This freedom begins when we understand what truly happens at death. Biblical truth frees us, for example, from the fear of suffering any kind of punishment or torment after death, because it teaches us that the dead are not conscious of anything. Therefore, there is no reason to fear pain or suffering after death, since the Bible clarifies that it is like a deep sleep: a complete rest, free from any agony or worry.

Furthermore, knowing the truth removes our fear that those who have passed on can harm us. No matter how strong or wicked they were in life, the Bible affirms that they are now powerless in death and that their feelings—such as love, hate, or jealousy—have vanished; they cannot affect us.

But the most beautiful thing about this freedom is understanding that death is not the final end. Thanks to the ransom that Jesus paid, God will bring many back to life through the resurrection.

So how does this freedom affect our daily lives? It allows us to live with real purpose and without despair. We overcome fear because we trust that Jehovah is a God of love who longs to bring back to life those in the memorial tombs. He assures us that the day will come when death will be no more. According to the Scriptures, at that time the righteous will inherit the earth and live on it forever, enjoying a full life and completely free from the fear that afflicts so many today.

Therefore, do not let the uncertainty of this system of things rob you of the joy of serving Jehovah. The fear of death is a chain that has held millions captive, but, as we have seen, the truth of the Scriptures sets us free.

Let us not live with the despair of those who do not know God's purpose; on the contrary, let us live each day with our eyes fixed on the new world that is so near. Let us take advantage of this time to strengthen our faith and share this wonderful hope with others.

Let us always remember that, thanks to Jehovah, death is not the end of our story, but the last obstacle before we begin true life.
