“You are very valuable” (DAN. 9:23).
1, 2. What will help us to be convinced that we are very valuable to Jehovah?
Something that greatly helps us to be convinced that we are valuable to Jehovah is to analyze how he and Jesus treat people in the Bible. Although some faithful servants have low self-esteem because of painful experiences, Jehovah never views them as insignificant.
Jesus perfectly reflected his Father’s feelings by treating humble and despised people with dignity and respect. Meditating on Bible accounts where Jehovah shows love and appreciation for his servants helps us to correct our way of thinking.
Furthermore, remembering that Jehovah attracts humble people because he values them allows us to strengthen our spiritual self-esteem and feel truly loved.
HOW JESUS HELPED PEOPLE SEE THEIR VALUABLENESS
3. How did Jesus treat the people from Galilee who came to him?
Jesus treated the people of Galilee with compassion, dignity, and respect, very differently from how the religious leaders viewed them. While the leaders despised them and considered them ignorant, Jesus saw that they were mistreated and abandoned like sheep without a shepherd. That is why he took the time to teach and heal them, demonstrating that they were precious to Jehovah.
He even trained his apostles to extend that help and reach more people. By his attitude, Jesus showed that Jehovah does not despise anyone with a sincere heart, and that helps us remember that we too are important to God.
4. What do we learn from the way Jesus treated humble people?
From the way Jesus treated humble people, we learn that Jehovah highly values those whom the world often despises. Jesus was not swayed by prejudice or the opinions of religious leaders, but showed kindness and respect to those who wanted to learn.
This teaches us that our worth does not depend on how society sees us, but on how Jehovah sees us. If we ever feel unimportant, remembering how Jesus treated us can comfort and strengthen us. It helps us understand that Jehovah values those who serve him humbly, even if they seem insignificant in the eyes of others.
5. What was wrong with the woman Jesus met in Galilee?
The woman Jesus encountered had been suffering from hemorrhages for 12 years, an illness that not only weakened her physically but also isolated her socially and spiritually. This surely made her feel rejected, alone, and worthless.
Furthermore, she had spent all her money on doctors without improvement, which increased her frustration and despair. We can only imagine how much she suffered emotionally, being isolated from others for so many years.
This account helps us understand that Jehovah sees and understands the deep pain of those who feel marginalized, even when others do not notice it.
6. How was the woman who was suffering from hemorrhages cured?
The woman was healed thanks to her deep faith in Jesus. Although she longed to be healed, she didn't dare ask him for help directly, perhaps out of shame or fear of being reprimanded for touching someone while unclean.
She thought that simply touching Jesus's clothes would heal her. This act demonstrated a sincere and humble faith. The moment she touched him, her illness completely disappeared.
Jesus noticed that power had gone out from him and asked who had touched him. This was not to shame her, but to help her in a deeper way. This account teaches us that Jehovah values faith, even when it is accompanied by fear or insecurity.
7. How did Jesus treat that woman? (Mark 5:34).
Jesus treated that woman with extraordinary tenderness and respect. Seeing that she was trembling with fear, he neither rebuked nor shamed her, but spoke to her affectionately and called her “daughter.” With that word, Jesus conveyed closeness, dignity, and acceptance to her.
He not only healed her physically, but also helped her to free herself from the guilt and fear she carried within. In this way, Jesus perfectly reflected Jehovah’s love, showing that he cares not only about our ailments, but also about our feelings and our inner peace.
8. What difficulties did a sister from Brazil face?
Renata, a sister from Brazil, faced great difficulties from birth due to a genetic defect that left her without legs and one hand. Throughout her life, she suffered ridicule, bullying, and prejudice, even from family members. All of this deeply affected her self-esteem and made her feel worthless.
In addition to his physical limitations, he had to contend with the emotional pain caused by constant rejection. His experience reflects that today many of Jehovah’s servants face trials that can lead them to feel depressed or worthless, but Jehovah never ceases to see them as very valuable.
ADDITIONAL COMMENT
Renata faced ridicule, rejection, and prejudice from a young age due to her physical limitations. This deeply affected her self-esteem and made her feel worthless, even within her own family.
9. What helped Renata feel very valuable?
What helped Renata feel valued was the sincere affection of the congregation and her relationship with Jehovah. When she became one of Jehovah's Witnesses, the brothers encouraged her, supported her, and helped her see herself as Jehovah sees her. She felt that she had found a true spiritual family that accepted and valued her.
Thanks to that constant love, Renata understood that, beyond her physical limitations, Jehovah considers her very valuable. Her experience reminds us that Jehovah uses the congregation to heal hearts and strengthen the self-esteem of those who have suffered rejection.
10. What terrible situation was Mary Magdalene in? (See also the images).
Mary Magdalene went through a truly terrible ordeal when she was possessed by seven demons. This must have severely affected her life, both emotionally and socially.
It is very likely that her behavior was incomprehensible to others, leading her to be avoided, rejected, or even feared. During that dark period, Maria must have felt alone, helpless, and worthless.
However, Jesus did not see her as a lost soul, but as someone who deserved compassion and help. By freeing her from the demons, Jesus restored not only her peace of mind, but also the opportunity to begin a new life.

In what ways did Jesus help Mary Magdalene see how much she was valued in God's eyes? (See paragraphs 10 and 11.)
11. How did Jesus make it clear to Mary Magdalene how much Jehovah appreciated her? (See also the pictures.)
Jesus made it clear to Mary Magdalene how much Jehovah valued her in several very significant ways. After freeing her from demons, he invited her to accompany him on his preaching tours, which allowed her to hear his teachings firsthand and become part of his close group of followers.
Moreover, on the day of his resurrection, Jesus appeared to her first and spoke with her personally. He even entrusted her with the responsibility of informing the apostles that he had risen from the dead. By these actions, Jesus demonstrated that Mary had not only been forgiven and healed, but was also trustworthy and highly valued in Jehovah’s eyes.
12. Why did Lydia feel rejected?
Lidia grew up feeling rejected and unloved throughout her childhood, even by her own mother, who, when she became pregnant, seriously considered having an abortion. These situations deeply damaged her self-esteem and made her see herself as a bad person, someone who didn't deserve the affection of others.
13. What helped Lydia to understand how valuable she is in Jehovah’s eyes?
When Lidia learned the truth, her perspective changed completely. Prayer, Bible reading, and the sincere affection of her brothers and sisters helped her understand that Jehovah values her greatly. Furthermore, her husband and friends constantly remind her of her good qualities.
Thanks to that spiritual and emotional support, Lidia learned to see herself as Jehovah sees her. Her experience encourages us to ask ourselves what we can do to help others in similar situations to feel valued.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO SEE YOURSELF AS JEHOVAH SEES YOU
14. What does 1 Samuel 16:7 teach us about Jehovah’s viewpoint? (See also the box “Why Does Jehovah Value His Servants So Much?”)
1 Samuel 16:7 teaches us that Jehovah does not view people as the world does. He does not look at appearance, status, or accomplishments, but at the heart. This helps us to correct our thinking about our own worth. Jehovah values faithfulness, humility, and a sincere desire to serve him.
To strengthen our self-esteem, we can meditate on Bible accounts of servants who felt discouraged and see how Jehovah valued them. It is also helpful to recall times when we have felt his love and to accept the help he provides through his publications.
ADDITIONAL COMMENT
Jehovah does not measure our worth by outward appearance, but by our heart. For him, what matters most is our faithfulness and our sincere desire to serve him.
15. Why did Jehovah tell Daniel, “You are very valuable”? (Daniel 9:23).
Jehovah told Daniel: “You are very valuable,” because he deeply appreciated his faithfulness and love for justice. Although Daniel was weary and discouraged in his old age, Jehovah heard his prayers and sent the angel Gabriel to encourage him.
This account was recorded for our comfort, to remind us that Jehovah also hears our prayers and values our faithfulness. Like Daniel, we are precious to Jehovah when we love what is right and continue to serve him loyally.
16. What can help you to see Jehovah as a loving father?
Meditating on how Jehovah treats us like a loving father can greatly help improve our self-esteem. He doesn't focus on our mistakes, but rather wants to help and care for us. Thinking about scriptures that show his tenderness and protection gives us emotional peace.
The experiences of sisters like Eliana and Lauren show that imagining Jehovah as a loving father can heal deep wounds. Remembering that Jehovah drew us to himself with love and continues to use us in his service helps us to feel useful and valued in his eyes.
17. What can convince you that you have Jehovah’s approval? (Psalm 5:12; see also the picture.)
Knowing that we have Jehovah's approval can protect us emotionally, like a great shield. Jehovah confirms his love for us through his Word and also through our brothers and sisters.
When we receive words of encouragement from spiritual people, we can view them as an expression of Jehovah’s love. This helps us to combat self-doubt. Being convinced that Jehovah approves of us gives us confidence, peace, and strength to keep going, even when we struggle with feelings of low self-esteem.
ILLUSTRATION
Two sisters leave the Kingdom Hall smiling to go preaching together; one has her arm around the other's shoulder.
Knowing that we have Jehovah’s approval helps us to fight against low self-esteem. (See paragraph 17.)
18. Why should you accept the words of encouragement that are given to you?
We should accept words of encouragement, because Jehovah may be using them to reassure us that he values and approves of us. Rejecting them, thinking that we do not deserve them, can prevent Jehovah's comfort from reaching our hearts.
As Eliana explained, learning to accept encouragement is not easy, but it is necessary for emotional healing. Elders and brothers can be instruments of Jehovah to strengthen us. Humbly accepting their words helps us to see ourselves as Jehovah sees us and to continue serving him joyfully.
19. Why can you be sure that you are of great value to Jehovah?
We can be sure that we are very precious to Jehovah, because Jesus taught us how much our heavenly Father loves us. Jehovah cares for us personally and never forgets those who serve him faithfully. Knowing this fills us with peace and gives us strength to keep going.
Furthermore, Jehovah expects us to use what we learn to help others see themselves as he sees them. Remembering our worth protects us emotionally and motivates us to reflect Jehovah's love for others.
