Start conversations (4 mins.) INFORMAL PREACHING. A person is concerned about a current news story (lmd lesson 2 point 5).
Setting: During the school entrance period, the publisher begins a conversation with a classmate who is distressed by a recent security incident outside the school. Using the Bible, the publisher shows the classmate how God's Kingdom will end insecurity and we will no longer feel fear.
Publisher: [Name], hey, I was just looking for you, because I found a very practical principle on how to handle exam stress.
Assistant: Don't talk to me about exams, [name]. Did you see what just happened on the street behind us? Three students were mugged ten minutes ago. The news says the area is out of control. You can't even come here to study in peace anymore.
Publisher: You're absolutely right, [name], forget about it. The stress of exams is nothing compared to feeling like your life is in danger when you leave class.
Assistant: It's incredibly frustrating. The guards do nothing, and neither does the police. It seems like the bad guys are always one step ahead.
Publisher: I understand you perfectly, because one feels that justice simply does not exist for people like us, who are just trying to get ahead.
Assistant: Exactly. Sometimes I think this world is going to end up becoming a jungle where only the most violent survive.
Publisher: And the worst part is that this feeling of insecurity robs us of our peace of mind, making us more focused on who is walking behind us than on what the teacher is explaining.
Assistant: Absolutely. And how do you manage not to live with that fear? Because you always seem very calm.
Publisher: It's not that I'm ignoring reality, [name], but it helps me a lot to know that this situation of global insecurity isn't something that's beyond God's control. In fact, the Bible describes this time of violence as a sign that we're very close to a radical and positive change.
Assistant: A change? I only see that everything is getting worse.
Publisher: The Bible promises something no government can deliver. Let me read you a passage from Micah 4:4: “Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the Lord Almighty has spoken.” The text is clear: everyone will live in peace, and no one will frighten them. This means the problem of crime will be eradicated.
Assistant: It sounds great, but it seems impossible to achieve given the state of the streets today.
Publisher: You're right. From a human perspective it's impossible, but I take comfort in knowing that God has the power and, above all, the desire to accomplish it. But of course, that leaves us wondering: What will happen to the people who cause so much harm and violence today?
Assistant: That's the part I'd most like to know.
Publisher: Tomorrow, if you have a minute before first class, I'll show you what the Bible says about how that cleansing will happen so we can live without fear. Does that sound good?
Assistant: Sure, that sounds good to me.
