Clothe yourselves with patience (Col. 3:12).

Let us consider four characteristics of a patient person. First, they do not get angry easily. They strive to remain calm under pressure and to avoid retaliating when provoked (Ex. 34:6). Second, a patient person knows how to wait patiently. They do not become anxious or irritated if something takes longer than expected (Matt. 18:26, 27).

Third, she is not impulsive. When faced with an important task, a patient person doesn't rush to start it or rush to finish it. Rather, she dedicates enough time to plan what she is going to do and then takes the necessary time to perform the task well.

Fourth, a patient person strives to endure trials without complaining. He will do his best to maintain a positive attitude and continue serving Jehovah joyfully (Col. 1:11). We Christians should demonstrate patience in all these ways.

How does a patient react when they feel provoked?

Let us consider four characteristics of a patient person. First, they do not get angry easily. They strive to remain calm under pressure and to avoid retaliating when provoked. This characteristic of patience is first highlighted in the Bible when Jehovah is described as “a merciful and compassionate God, slow to anger and full of loyal love and truth” (Ex. 34:6, second footnote).

How does a patient react when they have to wait?

Second, a patient person knows how to wait calmly. He does not become anxious or irritated if something takes longer than expected (Matt. 18:26, 27). There are many situations in which we need to wait without losing our composure. For example, when someone tells us something, we should listen patiently and not interrupt (Job 36:2). We also need patience to help a student understand a Bible teaching or to overcome a bad habit.

How else do we demonstrate that we are patient?

Third, a patient person is not impulsive. It's true that sometimes you have to act quickly. But when it comes to an important task, a patient person doesn't rush to start it, nor do they rush to finish it. Rather, they dedicate enough time to plan what they are going to do and then take the necessary time to perform the task well.

How does a patient person react to tests or difficulties?

Fourth, a patient person strives to endure trials without complaining. So patience and endurance go hand in hand. Of course, there is nothing wrong with confiding in a trusted friend and telling them how we feel when we are going through a difficult time. But a patient person will do their best to maintain a positive attitude and continue serving Jehovah joyfully (Col. 1:11). Christians should show patience in all these ways. Why? Let’s consider some reasons.
