Speech (5 mins.) lmd appendix A point 14. Title: God wants us to pray to him (th lesson 8).
Communication is fundamental in any relationship. Parents want to talk to their children; friends want to share their experiences; and spouses want to express their love and support for each other.
Likewise, our Creator and Father, Jehovah God, loves us and wants us to pray to him because he desires a relationship with us. He wants us to communicate with him, to tell him our thoughts, our feelings, and our needs. He wants to be our confidant, our friend, and our refuge in times of need.
But why is prayer so important? Why does God want us to pray to Him? The answer is simple: God wants us to pray to Him because He loves us and desires to have a relationship with us.
LET'S READ PSALM 62:8
“Trust in him at all times, O people. Pour out your hearts before him. God is our refuge.”
God wants us to trust in Him, to approach Him with our worries, our fears, and our joys. For example, imagine a small child approaching his father and saying, “Dad, I’m sad because I fell and hurt my knee.” The father sits down with the child, hugs him, and says, “I’m sorry, son, I’m here for you. Let me see your knee, and I’ll help you feel better.”
Likewise, God wants us to come to him with our hurts and sorrows so he can comfort and heal us. But not only that, God also wants us to know that he is a God who listens.
LET'S READ PSALM 65:2
“To you, the one who hears prayers, all kinds of people will come.”
God not only wants us to pray to Him, but He also wants us to know that He is listening. And what happens when we approach God in prayer? The answer is found in 1 Peter 5:7: God not only hears our prayers, but He also cares for us.
He wants us to let go of our worries and fears and place them in his hands. So there's no reason not to pray. God wants us to pray to him, to communicate with him, and to trust him.
No matter what we're going through or how we're feeling, God is there, listening and waiting for us to draw near to Him. So let's approach God in prayer with confidence and faith. Let's pour out our hearts before Him and be assured that He hears us and cares for us.
