You have my approval (Luke 3:22).
Jehovah gives his holy spirit to those who have his approval (Matt. 12:18). We might ask ourselves, “Do I demonstrate in my life the qualities that the holy spirit produces?” For example, are you more patient now than before you came to know Jehovah? Actually, the more you observe that you are demonstrating the qualities of the fruitage of the spirit, the more certain you can be that Jehovah is pleased with you.
Jehovah applies the value of the ransom to those who have his approval (1 Tim. 2:5, 6). But what if we find it hard to accept the idea that Jehovah approves of us even though we have faith in the ransom and are baptized? Let us remember that we cannot always trust what our heart tells us, but we can always trust Jehovah. In his eyes, those who have faith in the ransom are righteous, and he promises to bless them (Ps. 5:12; Rom. 3:26).
According to 1 Thessalonians 2:4, whom does Jehovah use to preach the good news? And how does that make you feel?
Jehovah entrusts them with the task of proclaiming the good news to those he approves of (read 1 Thessalonians 2:4). Let’s see how a sister named Jocelyn realized this. One day, she woke up feeling very down. She says: “I felt weak, unable to do anything. But I was pioneering, and that day I was scheduled to preach. So I prayed to Jehovah and went out.” That morning, Jocelyn spoke with Mary, a kind woman who agreed to study the Bible with her. A few months later, Mary told her that on the morning Jocelyn knocked on her door, she had been praying to God for help.
What did Jocelyn learn from that experience? She says: “I felt that Jehovah was telling me, ‘You have my approval.’” Of course, not everyone will listen to our message, but we can be sure that Jehovah is pleased when he sees us making a tremendous effort to share the good news with others.
What does Vicky's words teach you about rescue? (Psalm 5:12).
Meditating on the ransom helped a sister named Vicky immensely. Although she found it hard to believe that Jehovah loved her, she came to this conclusion: “Jehovah had been very patient with me for a long time . . . Yet, it was as if I had been saying to him, ‘Your love cannot reach me. Your Son’s sacrifice is not enough to forgive my sins.’” Like Vicky, if we meditate on the ransom, we too will feel Jehovah’s love and become convinced that we have his approval.
What can we be sure of if we continue to love our Heavenly Father?
Even if we strive to apply all that we have learned in this article, we may sometimes become discouraged and wonder if we have Jehovah’s approval. If that happens to you, remember that he approves of “those continuing to love him.” (James 1:12) So keep drawing close to Jehovah and try to see all the ways in which he shows his pleasure with you. And never forget that God “is not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:27)
