Ignore an offense (Prov. 19:11).
Let’s say you’re having a nice time with a group of brothers and you decide to take a group photo. To make sure you have a good memory, you take three pictures. But you notice that in one of them, a brother doesn’t look his best. So you delete it and keep the other two, because in them everyone is smiling. Usually, we have fond memories of the enjoyable times we spend with our brothers and sisters. But suppose that on one of those occasions, a brother said or did something that wasn’t right. What will you do with that memory? Why not delete it, just like you would a photograph? (Eph. 4:32) Since we have so many good memories of the times we’ve spent with that brother, we can delete it. It’s best to cherish the “nice pictures.”
What do we achieve when our love for others is strong? (Colossians 3:13).
The love we have for our brothers and sisters should be so great that we are able to forgive their mistakes, even if it seems very difficult to do so (read Colossians 3:13). When we are able to forgive others, we show that our love is strong and that we want to please Jehovah. What else can help us to overlook the mistakes and irritating things of others?
What are the main ideas of this article?
Why do we want to keep our love for one another strong? As we saw, it's because by showing our love for our brothers and sisters, we also demonstrate our love for Jehovah. How can we express our love for our spiritual family? One way is by comforting them. And to keep doing that, we need to feel compassion. How can we keep our love for one another strong? By doing our best to forgive others' mistakes.
Why is it so important to show each other love these days?
Why is it so important to show love to one another today? Consider what Peter said: “The end of all things has drawn near. Therefore, . . feel intense love for one another.” (1 Pet. 4:7, 8) What can we expect to happen as the end draws near? Speaking of his disciples, Jesus foretold: “All the nations will hate you because of my name.” (Matt. 24:9) To continue serving Jehovah even though we are hated, we must remain united. Satan wants to divide us, but he will not succeed if we love one another, for love “is a perfect bond of union.” (Col. 3:14; Phil. 2:1, 2)
