Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name (Matt. 6:9).

Jesus was willing to endure torture, insults, and false accusations in order to sanctify his Father’s name. He knew that he had been completely obedient and had nothing to be ashamed of (Heb. 12:2). He also knew that, in those difficult moments, it was Satan who was attacking him (Luke 22:2-4; 23:33, 34).

The Devil wanted Jesus to stop being faithful to Jehovah, but he did not succeed; his failure was complete! Jesus proved beyond any doubt that Satan is a liar and that Jehovah does indeed have servants who remain loyal even in the most difficult trials.

Do you want to make your King, Jesus Christ, happy? Then keep praising Jehovah’s name and helping others to see what he is really like. In this way, you will be following in Jesus’ footsteps (1 Pet. 2:21). And, like him, you will make Jehovah happy and prove that your enemy, Satan, is a despicable liar.

What did Jesus tell his followers to include in their prayers? And, according to Ezekiel 36:23, why is it so important?

Jesus knew that Jehovah’s purpose is to sanctify his name, that is, to cleanse it of all the lies that have defiled it. That is why he taught his followers to pray: “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified” (Matt. 6:9). Jesus understood that in the entire universe there is nothing more important than that (read Ezekiel 36:23). And in all creation, no one has done as much as he has to sanctify Jehovah’s name. Even so, when he was arrested, what did his enemies accuse him of? Blasphemy, that is, defiling his Father’s holy name. For him, there was no sin more repugnant than that. And, even before his arrest, he already felt terrible because he knew he would be accused and condemned for that sin. In fact, that may have been the main reason why, at that moment, “his agony was so great” (Luke 22:41-44).

What extraordinary things happen when we teach people the truth about Jehovah?

Why can we say that praising Jehovah’s name helps save lives? Well, Satan has “blinded the minds” of “unbelievers” (2 Cor. 4:4). That is why many people have believed his lies and think that God does not exist, that he is far away from us, that he doesn’t care about us, or that he is cruel and tortures the wicked forever. Such lies only serve to tarnish Jehovah’s name and damage his reputation so that no one will want to approach him. But when we preach and teach the truth about our Father, we prevent Satan from succeeding and we praise Jehovah’s holy name. With what results?

The truths of the Bible have tremendous power. When we teach people who Jehovah is and what he is like, extraordinary things happen. As they are freed from the satanic lies that blinded them, they open their eyes and begin to see our Father as we see him.

They are awestruck by his awesome power (Isaiah 40:26). His perfect justice gives them security (Deuteronomy 32:4). They marvel at his profound wisdom (Isaiah 55:9; Romans 11:33). And they find great comfort in learning that he is love personified (1 John 4:8).

By drawing close to Jehovah, they become convinced that they can live forever and become his children. Isn’t helping people draw close to their heavenly Father an incomparable honor? Moreover, when we do so, Jehovah considers us his “fellow workers.” (1 Cor. 3:5, 9)

What effect might learning God's name have? Give an example.

When we talk to someone about God, we probably only teach them at first that his name is Jehovah. And the truth is, if the person has a good heart, that alone can change their life.

For example, a young woman named Aliyah grew up in a non-Christian family. But she wasn't satisfied with the beliefs she was taught, nor did she feel close to God. Everything changed when she began studying with the Witnesses. When she discovered that in many Bibles God's name had been replaced with simple titles, such as Lord, she couldn't believe it. Learning God's name was a turning point in her life, as she began to see him as a friend. Surprised, she said, "My best friend has a name!" She says, "Now I have so much peace. I feel so privileged."

Steve was a musician from a very conservative Jewish family. Having witnessed so much hypocrisy, he decided he didn't want to be part of any religion. However, when a relative died, he agreed to attend a Bible study led by one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Learning God's name touched him deeply. He says, "I had no idea what God's name was." He adds, "For the first time in my life, I saw that God is a real person. At that moment, I realized I had found a friend."
