“I drew you to me with loyal love” (JER. 31:3).
1. Why did you dedicate your life to Jehovah? (See also the pictures.)
DO YOU REMEMBER the day you dedicated your life to Jehovah? You made that decision because you had come to know and love him deeply. That's why you promised him that the most important thing in your life would be to do his will and that you would always love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Mark 12:30). Since then, the love you feel for him has grown more and more. In fact, if someone were to ask you, “Are you sure you love Jehovah?” you would immediately reply, “Of course I do! I love him more than anything and anyone.”

Do you remember how much you loved Jehovah when you dedicated your life to him and were baptized? (See paragraph 1.)
2, 3. What does Jehovah want? (Jeremiah 31:3). What will we discuss in this article?
2 Now, what would you answer if someone asked you, “Are you sure Jehovah loves you?”? It may not be so easy to answer, for deep down you may feel that you don’t deserve his love. A sister who had a difficult upbringing said: “I love Jehovah, there’s no doubt about it. Yet, I often wonder if he loves me.” But how does Jehovah feel about you?
3 Jehovah wants you to be fully convinced that he loves you. (Read Jeremiah 31:3.) The truth is, Jehovah wanted you to be his friend, and that's why he drew you to him. And when you dedicated your life to him and were baptized, he granted you something very special: his loyal love. That love is a deep and lasting attachment that Jehovah feels for all his servants, including you. Because of that love, you are a "valuable possession" to him. (Mal. 3:17, footnote) Jehovah doesn’t want you to doubt his love, but to feel the same confidence that the apostle Paul had, who wrote: “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor governments, neither things present nor things to come, nor powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God.” (Rom. 8:38, 39). In this article, we'll look at why it's so important to convince ourselves that Jehovah loves us and what will help us become increasingly convinced.
WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO BELIEVE THAT JEHOVAH LOVES US
4. What is one of the most cunning traps that Satan uses, and how can we oppose him?
4 If we are convinced that Jehovah loves us, we can stand “firm against the cunning snares” of Satan. (Eph. 6:11) What is one of the most cunning traps he uses to try to get us to stop serving God? He tries to make us believe that Jehovah does not love us. Let us never forget that Satan is an opportunist. The Bible says he is like a lion (1 Pet. 5:8, 9). Lions usually attack animals that are weak and defenseless. Similarly, the Devil often attacks us when we feel weak, tired, or discouraged by past experiences, present problems, or future worries (Prov. 24:10). To resist his evil attacks and prevent him from getting his way, we must oppose him and do everything possible to convince ourselves that Jehovah loves us. (James 4:7).
5. Why is it so important to feel that Jehovah loves and values us?
5 If we are convinced that Jehovah loves us, we will draw closer to him. Why do we say this? Jehovah created us with the need to love and feel loved. When someone shows us they love us, our natural reaction is to love that person back. So the more we feel that Jehovah loves and values us, the more we will love him. (1 John 4:19). And, in turn, the more we love him, the more he will love us, for the Bible says: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8) Now let’s see what will help each of us be absolutely certain that Jehovah loves us.
WHAT WILL HELP YOU BE SURE THAT JEHOVAH LOVES YOU?
6. What can you ask of Jehovah if you find it hard to believe that he loves you?
6 Ask Jehovah again and again to help you understand why he loves you. (Luc. 18:1; Rom. 12:12). You may have to tell him many times a day to help you see yourself as he sees you. If your heart resists believing that Jehovah loves you, remember that he is bigger than your heart. (1 John 3:19, 20). He knows you better than you know yourself and sees qualities in you that you may not see (1 Sam. 16:7; 2 Chron. 6:30). So don't hesitate to tell Him everything you feel and ask Him to help you be convinced of His love (Ps. 62:8). And after you pray, get to work. Let's look at some things you can do.
7, 8. How do the Psalms help us to be convinced that Jehovah loves us?
7 Choose to believe Jehovah. God used his holy spirit to help Bible writers accurately describe his qualities. For example, consider these beautiful words of David: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted; he saves those who are crushed in despair” (Ps. 34:18). If you feel this way, you may think no one understands or can help you. But Jehovah promises to be there for you because he knows that these are the moments when you need him most. In another psalm, David wrote: “Gather my tears into your wineskin” (Ps. 56:8). A wineskin was a container used by travelers, for example, to preserve every last drop of precious water. Similarly, when you are suffering through very difficult situations, Jehovah is pained and, so to speak, saves each of your precious tears to show how much he cares for you. David also said to Jehovah, “You know all my ways.” (Ps. 139:3) Jehovah sees all your ways, that is, all the things you do, and he focuses especially on the good ones. (Heb. 6:10) Why? Because He greatly appreciates all you do to please Him.
8 With such encouraging verses, it's as if Jehovah were saying to you, "I want you to know how much I love and care for you." But, as we saw earlier, Satan wants you to believe that Jehovah doesn't love you. So if you sometimes wonder if Jehovah loves you, you may think, "Whom shall I believe: the 'father of lies' or the 'God of truth'?" (John 8:44; Ps. 31:5)
9. What does Jehovah promise to those who love him? (Exodus 20:6)
9 Consider how Jehovah feels about those who love him. Consider, for example, what he said to Moses and the Israelites. (Read Exodus 20:6.) God promises to continue showing loyal love to those who love him. Because he is loyal, he will never deny his love to someone who loves him. (Neh. 1:5) So if you ever struggle to believe that Jehovah loves you, ask yourself, “Do I love Jehovah?” And then consider this: If you love him and strive to please him, you know that he loves you deeply, too. (Dan. 9:4; 1 Cor. 8:3) In other words, if you are convinced that you love Jehovah, you can also be completely convinced that he loves you and will never abandon you.
10, 11. How does Jehovah want you to view the ransom? (Galatians 2:20)
10 Meditate on the ransom. Jesus' sacrifice is the greatest gift Jehovah has given to humanity. (John 3:16). But he didn't send his Son to give his life just for humanity in general, but for you as well. Consider the case of the apostle Paul. Before becoming a Christian, he did some very bad things and afterward had to continue struggling with his weaknesses (Rom. 7:24, 25; 1 Tim. 1:12-14). Even so, he came to see the ransom as a gift Jehovah had given him (read Galatians 2:20). Remember, God used his spirit to help Paul write down those words, and if they are in the Bible, it is because Jehovah wants to teach us something (Rom. 15:4). He wants you, too, to see the ransom as a gift He has given you. When you come to see it this way, you will be even more convinced that Jehovah loves you.
11 We are so grateful to Jehovah for sending his Son to give his life for us. But Jesus didn't come to earth just for that reason. He also came to share the truth about God, including how he feels about his children, as we'll see now. (John 18:37)
JESUS TAUGHT THAT JEHOVAH LOVES YOU
12. Why can we trust what Jesus said about Jehovah?
12 When Jesus was on earth, he enjoyed teaching what Jehovah is like. (Luke 10:22) And we can fully trust that everything he said about his Father is true. After all, no one knows him better than he does, having been with him in heaven for billions of years. (Col. 1:15). You have felt and seen with your own eyes the deep love Jehovah shows his faithful children, both those in heaven and those on earth. Let's see how what Jesus taught helps convince us that Jehovah loves us.
13. How does Jesus want us to see Jehovah?
13 Jesus wants us to see Jehovah as he does: as a loving Father who loves us deeply. In fact, in the Gospels, he called Jehovah “Father” more than 160 times. And when speaking to his disciples, he often used expressions like “your Father” and “your heavenly Father.” (Matt. 5:16; 6:26) The study note on Matthew 5:16 explains: “God’s ancient servants used many exalted titles to describe and address Jehovah, such as ‘Almighty,’ ‘the Most High,’ and ‘Great Creator.’ . . . However, Jesus’ frequent use of a simple and common term like ‘Father’ highlights the close relationship God has with those who worship him.” Let’s consider two instances when Jesus used the word “Father” to refer to Jehovah.
14. How did Jesus show that each of us is valuable to Jehovah? (Matthew 10:29–31; see also the image.)
14 First, let's look at Jesus' words found in Matthew 10:29-31 (read it). There he said that our Father knows when a simple sparrow falls to the ground. If he cares so much for these little creatures, who don't adore him or feel love for him, imagine how much he must care for each of his servants, who adore him out of love. On the other hand, in verse 30 we find a study note on the phrase “even the hairs of his head are all numbered,” which says: “The fact that Jehovah knows even these smallest details demonstrates how much he cares for each of Christ’s disciples.” It is clear that Jesus wants us to be convinced that each of us is of great value to our heavenly Father.

If Jehovah knows when a simple sparrow falls to the ground, imagine how much he loves you, who serve him faithfully out of love. (See paragraph 14.)
15. What does John 6:44 teach you about Jehovah?
15 Another time Jesus used the word “Father” is in John 6:44 (read it). As you can see, your heavenly Father kindly drew you to him because he saw that your heart was in the right attitude (Acts 13:48). The study note on John 6:44 indicates that Jesus may have been referencing what Jeremiah wrote in the theme text for this article: “I drew you to me with loyal love.” This verse can also be translated “I kept showing you loyal love” (Jer. 31:3; note; compare Hosea 11:4). Think about it: Our Heavenly Father still loves you, and that means He still sees that you have good qualities even if you don't see them.
16. (a) What is Jesus teaching us, and why can we trust him? (b) What will help us be convinced that Jehovah is the Father we need? (See the box “The Father We All Need.”)
16 In short, it's as if Jesus were saying to us: "Jehovah is not only my Father; He is also yours. And I guarantee that He loves you and cares deeply for you." So if you sometimes find it hard to believe that Jehovah loves you, ask yourself: “Don’t I have good reasons to trust Jesus, who always tells the truth and knows our Father better than anyone?” (1 Ped. 2:22).
KEEP STRIVING TO BE MORE CONVINCED EVERY DAY
17. Why should we be increasingly certain that Jehovah loves us?
17 As we've seen, Satan is a very cunning enemy and will do everything in his power to make us stop serving Jehovah. One of the tricks he uses to weaken us is trying to make us believe that Jehovah doesn't love us. Let's not let him get away with it! (Job 27:5). Therefore, we must continue to strive to be more certain every day that Jehovah loves us.
18. What can help you be more convinced that Jehovah loves you?
18 In this article, we've reviewed some things that can help you be more convinced that Jehovah loves you. For example, you can ask Him to help you see yourself as He sees you and meditate on biblical texts that show the deep affection He feels for His servants. It's also good to remember that he will never deny his love to someone who loves him. Never forget that you can see the ransom as a gift he has given you. And remember that, as Jesus said, Jehovah is your Father. So if someone asks you, “Are you sure Jehovah loves you?” you will immediately answer, “Absolutely! And I strive every day to show him that I love him.”
WHAT WOULD YOU ANSWER?
Why is it so important to believe that Jehovah loves us?
If we are convinced that Jehovah loves us, we will draw closer to him. Jehovah created us with the need to love and feel loved. When someone shows us that they love us, our natural reaction is to love that person back. So, the more we feel that Jehovah loves and values us, the more we will love him.
What will help us be sure that Jehovah loves us?
It will help us to ask Jehovah again and again to understand why he loves us and to meditate on his feelings toward those who love him. We can also reflect on the ransom, which is Jehovah's greatest gift to humanity. Furthermore, we must choose to believe Jehovah, because he used his Holy Spirit to enable the Bible writers to accurately describe his qualities.
How does Jesus help us convince ourselves that Jehovah loves us?
Jesus helps convince us that Jehovah loves us by showing us what He is like, since no one knows Him better, having been at His side in heaven for billions of years.
He assures us that if Jehovah knows when a simple sparrow falls, that he is not worshipped or loved, imagine how much more interested he is in each of his servants, who worship him out of love. Furthermore, Jesus wants us to see Jehovah as a loving Father who loves us very much.
