APPLY YOURSELF TO THE FIELD MINISTRY, September 22-28, 2025, Start Conversations: INFORMAL PREACHING. (Making Disciples: A Work of Love, Lesson 3, point 5). Prepared Assignment.
Start conversations (2 mins.) INFORMAL PREACHING. Find out what topics the person is interested in and agree to talk again another time (LMD lesson 3, point 5).
Setting: During an informal sermon, the preacher helps a woman holding a baby open a door. This leads to a conversation about topics that interest him, such as kindness, human behavior in the last days, and parenting. The publisher provides answers about the reasons for human behavior in these times, using biblical principles.
Publisher: Hello, do you need help?
Assistant: Yes please, I can't open the door.
Publisher: Yes, with the child in her arms it is difficult.
Assistant: Oh, yes, thank you.
Publisher: You are welcome.
Assistant: Thank you so much. I'm surprised to see you helped me. It's rare to find such kind people these days, and I'm amazed that someone would take the time to help a stranger.
Publisher: Well, the Bible says that in the last days, people will behave selfishly and unkindly. If you'll allow me, I can show you what 2 Timothy 3:1-4 says.
Assistant: Yes of course.
Publisher: “But you must know that in the last days critical times will come that are difficult to bear. 2 For people will love only themselves; they will be lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemous, disobedient to parents, ungrateful and faithless, 3 without natural affection, unwilling to make any agreement, slanderous, lacking self-control, fierce, not loving what is good, 4 they will be treacherous and stubborn, full of pride, loving pleasures rather than God.”
Assistant: This description is accurate; it is what we see today.
Publisher: The good thing is that there are still people who care about others and want to help.
Assistant: Yes, you're right. I'd like to know more about the Bible and its teachings. Do you think you could help me?
Publisher: Of course.
Assistant: I'd like to know something about parenting. I have two young children and want to make sure I'm doing the best for them.
Publisher: Great. The Bible has a lot of valuable advice on raising children. How about we meet again another time to discuss this topic that interests you?
Assistant: Sounds good to me. You can come to my house; I'll give you the address. Thank you for being so kind.
Publisher: You're welcome. I'm glad I could help. Have a nice day.
