Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2025

Let us encourage one another (Heb. 10:25).

If the idea of commenting at meetings makes you nervous, what can you do? One thing that can help is to prepare well (Prov. 21:5). The more you know about the information, the easier it will be to raise your hand. Another good idea is to keep your comments short (Prov. 15:23; 17:27). Fewer words mean less nerves. If you keep your comments short, using your own words, others will see that you have prepared well and understand the information.

What can you do if, after trying some of these suggestions, you feel nervous only once or twice? Remember, Jehovah greatly appreciates your best efforts to comment. (Luke 21:1-4) But Jehovah does not expect you to push yourself too hard. (Phil. 4:5) So determine how much you can give, take the initiative, and ask Jehovah to calm you. A brief comment might be your goal to begin with. w23.04 21 pars. 6-8.

What can you do to control your nerves?

Just the thought of commenting at meetings makes many brothers very nervous. If that's the case, what can you do? Why not look for ideas to help you control your nerves so you can better encourage others with your comments? One thing that might help is to review some of the suggestions that have appeared in previous issues of The Watchtower. One of those suggestions is to prepare well (Prov. 21:5).

What situation might arise in a large congregation?

If your congregation has many publishers, you may face a different situation. You may often be left without a comment because so many brothers and sisters want to give an answer. Consider Danielle, a sister who has always loved commenting at meetings. Commenting is very important to her because she considers it part of her worship of Jehovah, a way to encourage others, and a help to impress Bible truths on her mind. But when she began serving in a larger congregation, she no longer received as many comments—sometimes not even one at all. She says: “I felt frustrated. I felt like I had lost a privilege. When you don’t get a comment many times, you start to think it’s done on purpose.”

What could I do to be more likely to comment?

Have you ever felt like Danielle? If so, maybe you've thought it's better not to raise your hand anymore and just listen. But don't give up. What could you do to increase your chances of getting a comment? Don't settle for just preparing a single comment. That way, if you can't respond in the first few paragraphs, you'll be able to do so throughout the article.

When preparing for the Watchtower Study, think about how each paragraph relates to the article's topic. That way, you'll always have something to contribute. Another thing you could do is prepare to comment on the paragraphs that address deeper biblical truths (1 Cor. 2:10). Because they're harder to explain, there are usually fewer hands on these paragraphs. But what if you still don't comment after trying these suggestions in several meetings? Before the meeting, you could speak with the brother leading the study and tell him what question you'd like to answer.
