Make Disciples (5 mins.) Help your student prepare to preach to a family member (lmd lesson 11 point 5).
Setting: The publisher is helping a student prepare to speak to a family member about what she has learned in her Bible studies. The student mentions that her cousin believes the purpose of life is simply to be born, live, and die. The publisher guides her using a simple example and three key scriptures.
Publisher: (Closes study book) Well, [name], that wraps up today's lesson. What did you think of what we discussed about God's purpose for humanity?
Assistant: I found it fascinating. I always believed that life was simply being born, working, growing old, and dying. But today I understood that Jehovah wants something much more for us.
Publisher: That's right. And how good that you see it so clearly. Jehovah has a beautiful purpose for human life.
Assistant: I was actually thinking about my cousin. He always says that human beings are simply “born, work, grow old, and die, that that's our purpose.” I'd like to tell him what I learned, but I don't know how to explain it in a way he'll understand.
Publisher: That's excellent, Luisa. Wanting to share what you're learning is a sign of progress. Let's prepare together. The first thing is to use a simple example that he can understand. What does your cousin do?
Assistant: He's a construction foreman. He works in construction.
Publisher: Perfect! Look at this example: imagine your cousin starts building a house, but without plans, without a design, without knowing the purpose of each space. What would you think?
Assistant: He's crazy! Nothing would go right.
Publisher: Exactly. You don't start a building without a purpose. Then you could say to him: "Cousin, just as you don't build anything without a plan, God didn't create us randomly." He had a clear purpose when he created human beings.
Assistant: That would click right away!
Publisher: Okay. Now, what text could we show you to back that up?
Assistant: In the lesson we looked at Genesis 1:28. Jehovah gave clear instructions to Adam and Eve.
Publisher: Correct. Please read it.
Assistant: (Read the text) “Furthermore, God blessed them and said to them: ‘Have many children. Multiply, fill the earth and take control of it, and have authority over the fish of the sea, the flying animals of the sky, and every living thing that moves on the ground.’”
Publisher: Very well. That text shows that God wanted humans to fill the earth and take care of it. He didn't create them to die, but to live and enjoy it.
Assistant: I also remember Ecclesiastes 3:11.
Publisher: Very good text. Please read it too.
Assistant: (Read the text) “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has even placed eternity in their hearts. Yet humanity will never fully understand the works that the true God has done.”
Publisher: Excellent. Jehovah gave us the desire to live forever. That's why people suffer when someone dies: we feel that death shouldn't be a part of life.
Assistant: It's true, no one sees death as something natural. That's why we have such a hard time accepting it.
Publisher: And to reinforce the message, you can add Psalm 37:29.
Assistant: (Read the text) “The righteous will inherit the earth and live there forever.”
Publisher: Very well. With these three texts, you can show your cousin that God does have a clear and wonderful purpose.
Assistant: Then I would tell him the good example of construction. I would read Genesis 1:28: “He wanted the earth to be a paradise.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 “says he gave us the desire to live forever.” And Psalm 37:29 “promises that the righteous will live on the earth forever.”
Publisher: Very well said, [name]. Of course, keep your tone friendly, let him reflect; you don't have to convince him of everything right away. The important thing is to plant the seed of truth.
Assistant: I feel more prepared. Thanks for helping me organize my thoughts.
Publisher: I'm glad to see you so motivated. I'm sure Jehovah will bless your desire to share the truth. Let me know how it goes on your next visit.
