Watchtower Study, “Article 16,” June 23-29, 2025, Drawing Closer to Our Brothers Is Good for Us, Answers.

“How good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity!” (Ps. 133:1).

1, 2. What is one of the most important things to Jehovah, and what does he want us to do?

One of the most important things to Jehovah is how we treat others. He wants us to show genuine love not only to those who don't know him, but especially to our fellow believers.

Jesus made it clear that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, which means acting with empathy, kindness, and consideration toward everyone, no matter who they are.

Furthermore, Jesus emphasized that Jehovah is a perfect example of impartial love, for he makes the sun rise and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Imitating him means treating well even those who don't share our beliefs.

This brotherly love creates a warm atmosphere in the congregation and makes us feel part of a large spiritual family. Jehovah pays close attention to how we treat our brothers and sisters, because it reflects our love for Him.

3. What should we remember about love?

Love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, but that doesn't mean it grows on its own. It requires conscious effort, as Paul indicates in Hebrews 13:1. The verb "keeps showing itself" suggests that love needs constant nurturing.

Just as a plant can wither if left untended, love among congregation members can also weaken if we don't nourish it with kind words, caring gestures, and acts of kindness.

So it's key to remember that love requires continuous action, especially in difficult times, where that emotional and spiritual support can make a huge difference.

WHY WE SHOULD GET CLOSER TO OUR BROTHERS

4. What will help us continue to value the unity spoken of in Psalm 133:1? (See also the images.)

Psalm 133:1 highlights how pleasant and special it is for brothers to be united. This unity does not occur by coincidence, but is the result of a joint effort to cultivate Christian love.

In the world, relationships often deteriorate due to a lack of forgiveness, jealousy, or differences. Therefore, taking time to reflect on how valuable our brothers and sisters are—through their example, their faithful service, or their emotional support—is key to keeping our appreciation alive. This also helps us foster stronger relationships that will withstand challenges.

Let us never take for granted the beauty of the unity of Jehovah's people. (See paragraph 4.)

5. What effect can the love we Witnesses show each other have on others?

The Bible repeatedly highlights the power of Christian love to draw others to the true faith. In John 13:35, Jesus left no room for doubt: love among his followers would be his hallmark. And that's something Jehovah's Witnesses take seriously.

Chaitra's case reflects what many people feel when they meet the congregation: they realize there's something different, authentic, and deeply human about it. It's also interesting that this kind of love isn't about grand gestures or expensive gifts.

Sometimes a simple warm greeting or a sincere hug can be more than enough to reflect Jehovah's love. Such actions fulfill what Matthew 5:16 says: by letting "our light shine" and inspiring others to learn more about God.

6. How does getting closer to our brothers protect us?

The Christian life is not a solo journey. Jehovah has given us a spiritual family to accompany, encourage, and care for one another. Hebrews 3:13 reminds us to encourage one another daily, which requires consistency, closeness, and sensitivity to the struggles of others.

The example of the psalmist Asaph in Psalm 73 is invaluable. He was confused and discouraged until he entered God's sanctuary, where he was able to understand clearly and regain peace. Today, something similar can happen when receiving a timely word of encouragement from a close brother.

Therefore, reaching out to our brothers and sisters is one way Jehovah cares for us. We should not underestimate the power of a sincere conversation or a well-timed show of support.

7. What is the relationship between love and unity? (Colossians 3:13, 14)

In Jehovah's organization, love is more than a feeling. It's an active force that unites God's people, despite cultural diversity. This translates into very visible blessings, such as the peaceful and warm atmosphere felt in our meetings.

The love we have for one another creates a real, not superficial, unity. According to Ephesians 4:2-6, this unity doesn't come from all of us thinking exactly the same about everything, but from having the same spirit, faith, and hope, all based on our relationship with Jehovah.

Furthermore, 1 John 4:11 says that if God first loved us, we also ought to love one another. So Christian love is not just an emotion, but a decision that strengthens our unity. In short, when there is sincere love among brothers, there is true unity.

LET US HONOR ONE ANOTHER

8. How does Jehovah help us stay united?

Jehovah helps us stay united by teaching us to love one another, just as 1 Thessalonians 4:9 says. Although we are all imperfect, his Word guides us step by step so we know how to cultivate that love and grow closer together.

How does Jehovah accomplish this? He does so through the Bible. When we read and apply it, we are allowing God himself to shape us and teach us to be better brothers and sisters: more understanding, more patient, and more loving.

As Hebrews 4:12 says, His Word is powerful; it reaches the heart, corrects us, and helps us see where we can improve. And James 1:25 emphasizes that if we not only listen to the Word but also put it into practice, we will be happy and better spiritually.

ADDITIONAL COMMENT

Jehovah helps us stay united by teaching us to love one another through His Word. If we study and apply what we learn, He guides us, despite our imperfections, to continue fostering unity in the congregation.

9. What does Romans 12:9-13 teach us about honoring one another?

Romans 12:9-13 is a practical guide on how to cultivate genuine love among Christians. This passage speaks not only of feelings, but also of actions: hating what is evil, clinging to what is good, being tenderhearted, honoring one another, being diligent, constant in prayer, and showing hospitality.

Paul emphasizes that honoring others isn't passive, but rather requires taking the initiative. This means we must always be attentive to how we can encourage, lift up, or show appreciation to our brothers and sisters, even if they don't do it first.

This proactive attitude reflects the spirit of Christ, who was the first to love us. It's not about competing for attention, but about seeking ways to enrich the lives of others.

10. How can we be hard workers in honoring one another? (See also the image.)

Proverbs 3:27, 28 reminds us that if it is within our power to do good, we should not put it off. This motivates us to be attentive to the emotional, spiritual, or material needs of others and to act without waiting for someone else to do it.

For example, if we notice a brother or sister is sad, we could send them an encouraging message, visit them, or simply listen. Furthermore, 1 John 3:17, 18 emphasizes that true love is expressed not only in words, but also in actions.

Being diligent in showing honor means looking for practical ways to help, whether it's offering our time, resources, or energy for the benefit of others. This attitude allows us to imitate Jehovah and Jesus, who constantly strive to give us their best.

We must take the initiative to help our brothers and sisters in need. (See paragraph 10.)

11. What can help us get closer to our brothers?

Jehovah, through his Word, repeatedly encourages us to forgive. For example, Colossians 3:13 urges us to continue forgiving one another generously, which means doing so willingly and from the heart, not through force.

Although forgiveness may not always be easy, let us remember how much Jehovah has forgiven us, and how much this motivates us to imitate him. The biblical command not to let the sun set while we are still angry shows the urgency of resolving differences as quickly as possible.

Satan takes advantage of divisions among us to weaken the congregation. Yet, forgiveness doesn't mean condoning misconduct, but rather choosing not to hold a grudge. It's an act of humility, love, and obedience to Jehovah, which helps us maintain unity and reflect his personality.

12. How does Jehovah help us forgive others?

Forgiveness can be a great emotional challenge, especially if the offense was deep or repeated. However, Jehovah never expects us to do it on our own. Rather, he provides us with the Holy Spirit as a powerful aid.

This Spirit not only gives us wisdom, but also spiritual energy and motivation. As Romans 12:11 indicates, thanks to the Spirit's influence, we can be "full of enthusiasm" to do what is right, and that includes forgiving generously and showing genuine affection.

The Spirit acts as an inner driving force that transforms our attitude, softens our feelings, and replaces anger with compassion. Therefore, it is vital that we pray for Jehovah's help, just as Jesus taught in Luke 11:13.

“LET THERE BE NO DIVISIONS AMONG YOU”

13. What could divide us?

The diversity of the congregation is a blessing, but it can also be a challenge. If we're not careful, our differences of opinion on personal matters—such as clothing style, medical decisions, or entertainment choices—can lead to friction, criticism, or even division. This happens when we lose sight of the fact that every Christian answers to Jehovah, not to us.

Furthermore, pride can cause us to view our decisions as superior. Therefore, Philippians 2:3 is key: we must act with humility, avoiding comparing ourselves or belittling others. Unity does not mean uniformity, but rather love and mutual respect within biblical principles.

14. What should we always strive to do, and why?

We should always strive to encourage and comfort others, as this contributes powerfully to unity and love within the congregation. This attitude is especially important for those who return to Jehovah after a period of inactivity or after being removed from the congregation.

The warmth, empathy, and genuine affection we show them can make a huge difference in their spiritual journey. Thus, when we become a source of encouragement and comfort, we make ourselves available to Jesus to help those who are burdened and need relief.

15. How else can we promote unity? (See also the image.)

Words have the power to unite or divide, to encourage or discourage. Therefore, as Christians, we must have a profound respect for their effect on others.

Job 12:11 makes a very clear analogy: just as the tongue distinguishes flavors, the ear perceives the intention and tone of words. Therefore, we must be careful with what we say and how we say it.

Promoting unity involves not only avoiding negative comments, unnecessary criticism, or sarcasm, but also striving to use words that heal, comfort, and build.

Jehovah himself teaches us to be people who build others up. Even when we need to correct others, if we do so with tact and tenderness, the result will be uplifting. Therefore, thinking before we speak, praying for wisdom, and having empathy will help us continue to strengthen the bond of peace among brothers and sisters.

ADDITIONAL COMMENT

We can promote unity by thinking carefully before we speak. We must strive to ensure that our words edify, comfort, and benefit others, just as a good cook tastes food before serving it, ensuring that his or her guests will like it.

ILLUSTRATION

Before you speak, think carefully about what you are going to say. (See paragraph 15.)

16. Who in particular should make an effort to speak in an encouraging manner?

Husbands, fathers, and mothers are the ones who rule the home, and their way of speaking can build or destroy. Words of encouragement, appreciation, and understanding strengthen love and stability in the family. On the other hand, harsh words or constant criticism can discourage and alienate loved ones.

Likewise, elders act as spiritual shepherds in the congregation. Their words can help heal wounded hearts, comfort the depressed, and strengthen those struggling with trials. An understanding elder who knows how to listen and speak kindly reflects Jehovah's love and promotes unity in the congregation.

LET US LOVE “WITH DEEDS AND TRUTH”

17. What can we do to ensure that our love for our brothers and sisters is sincere?

Sincere love among Christians is a reflection of Jehovah's love for us. For this love to grow, it should not be sporadic or reserved only for formal occasions, such as meetings. Rather, we should seek out opportunities to interact naturally and consistently.

Visiting our brothers and sisters, taking an interest in their well-being, sharing a meal, or helping them with some practical need are gestures that leave a lasting impression on the heart.

These actions help ensure that love goes beyond mere theory and is expressed in tangible ways, creating a strong, loving, and united brotherhood. Furthermore, when others observe this sincere unity among us, they are convinced that we are truly disciples of Christ.

WHAT WOULD YOU ANSWER?
