How has having the DPA card ready helped some brothers?

Having the Medical Treatment Guidelines (DPA) card ready has helped many brothers because doctors and hospital staff can know immediately what our treatment decisions are. This prevents misunderstandings and helps our beliefs be respected, even if we are unconscious or unable to speak at the time. Furthermore, since it is an official document and is well written, doctors usually take it seriously, and that gives us peace of mind.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Facilitates communication in emergency situations: Many brothers have said that by having the DPA card ready, they did not have to worry about explaining their position to doctors when they were in a critical situation. The card spoke for them, and that avoided moments of tension or confusion.

Shows that we are prepared: Some doctors have greatly appreciated that we have this document because it shows that we have thought about our medical decisions beforehand. This generates respect and trust between health professionals and us. 

How has Information for Pregnant Women (S-401) helped some siblings?

The information document for pregnant women has been very useful for sisters who are expecting a baby, because it allows them to explain clearly and simply to doctors what their decisions are regarding treatments, especially in the event of an emergency. Many sisters have said that this document helped them prepare a medical plan with their doctor, which gave them a lot of confidence and avoided problems at the time of delivery.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Helps plan birth ahead of time: Many sisters have said that, by using this document, they were able to talk to their doctor from the first prenatal appointments and organize a birth plan that will respect their medical decisions. Thus, everything became clear before the moment of birth arrived.

Reassures both sister and doctors: Sisters who used this document commented that they felt safer knowing that their doctors understood their beliefs. In turn, the doctors also felt calmer because they knew how to act if an emergency arose.

If you need hospitalization, an operation or some treatment, such as those used against cancer, why is it important that you contact the CEH as soon as possible, even if it seems that you are not going to have problems with your blood?

It is important to contact the hospital liaison committee (HSC) as soon as possible because they have experience and can help you talk to doctors and find bloodless alternatives. Sometimes, even if we think there will be no problems with the blood, something unexpected can arise, and the CEH brothers are there to support us. They work alongside doctors and help find options that respect our beliefs, which gives a lot of peace and confidence during a difficult time.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

The CEH can act quickly if something unexpected arises. Even when we think there will be no problems, there are cases where the treatment plan suddenly changes. Contacting CEH in advance ensures that they are already aware and ready to help you if you need support.

They may recommend alternative doctors or treatments. The CEH brothers have experience and usually know hospitals or doctors who already have experience in bloodless treatments. This can make the process much easier and make you feel more confident.
