They were carrying out a dead man, the only son of a woman. Furthermore, she was a widow (Luke 7:12).
Jesus “saw the woman” and then “was deeply moved” (Luke 7:13). But he not only felt compassion for her, he showed it with actions. He must have said in a soft voice: “Don't cry anymore.” But he didn't just talk to her; He raised his son and “gave him to him” (Luke 7:14, 15). What do we learn from this miracle of Jesus? A lesson in showing compassion to those who grieve. Just as Jesus did, we can learn to be compassionate toward those who have lost a loved one. We must first be observant and then take the initiative to say and do something that helps and comforts them (Prov. 17:17; 2 Cor. 1:3, 4; 1 Pet. 3:8). A few words and a kind gesture can do a lot of good. w23.04 5, 6 paras. 13-15
What does Jesus encounter near the city of Nain, and what does he do? (Luke 7:11-15).
(Read Luke 7:11-15). About halfway through his ministry, Jesus travels to Nain. That Galilean city is not far from Shunem, where some 900 years earlier Elisha resurrected a woman's son (2 Kings 4:32-37). As Jesus approaches the city gate, he encounters a funeral procession. The scene is heartbreaking. A widow has just lost her only son. But she is not alone; many inhabitants of the city accompany her. Jesus stops the procession and does something for this broken mother: he resurrects her son. This is the first of three resurrections performed by Jesus that are specifically mentioned in the Gospels.

What do we learn from this miracle of Jesus? A lesson in showing compassion to those who grieve. It is true that we cannot raise the dead, as Jesus did with the widow's son. But we can learn to be compassionate towards those who have lost a loved one. What do we learn from the experience of the paragraph? (See the photo that depicts this experience).
Let's think about what happened a few years ago at a meeting. While a resurrection song was being sung, one sister saw another crying across the hall. She was crying because she had recently lost her little daughter. Because the sister knew what this mother was going through, she quickly went to her side, hugged her, and sang the rest of the song with her. The mother remembers that at that moment her heart was filled with love for the brothers. I was very happy to have gone to the meeting. She said, “I knew I would get help there, at the Kingdom Hall.” We can be sure that Jehovah sees and values even the small gestures with which we express our compassion for those who are grieving and “sunken in discouragement” (Ps. 34:18).
What did we learn in this article?
Studying the miracles of Jesus greatly strengthens our faith. These Gospel accounts show us that Jehovah and Jesus love us very much, that Jesus has the power to end all of humanity's problems, and that we can be completely confident that the blessings of the Kingdom will soon come true. Additionally, they give us opportunities to meditate on how we can imitate the qualities of Jesus. Why not consider studying other miracles of Jesus in your family worship or in your personal study? Focus on the lessons you can learn and discuss them with others. That will lead to very good conversations (Rom. 1:11, 12).
