What important event occurred in 1944?

In 1944, the first official songbook of Jehovah's Witnesses was published, which was entirely dedicated to singing praises to Jehovah. This was something very special because the songs helped the congregation express their faith and love for God in a more unified and exciting way.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

That year, an assembly was held in New York with the theme: "United Announcers." There, a resolution was adopted for Jehovah's Witnesses to raise their voices through songs of praise to God, since for 6 years they stopped singing praises and in that year they could finally sing to Jehovah again.

The publication of the songbook in 1944 marked a turning point because for the first time, Jehovah's Witnesses had songs specially composed to strengthen their spirituality. Before that, songs from other sources were used, but they did not have the same focus on pure worship.

This songbook helped make the meetings more uplifting and joyful, because the songs were specifically designed to reflect the Bible teachings and values that Jehovah's Witnesses held so dear.

Although the brothers sang at the assemblies, from 1938 to 1944, there was no singing at the Meetings. Brother Frederick Franz presented the talk entitled, “The Song of Kingdom Service” and announced this new songbook, which caused great excitement and joy among the brothers.

How did our brothers in Siberia show that they valued singing Kingdom songs?

Our brothers in Siberia lived through very difficult times, as many were in labor camps under extreme conditions. Despite this, they did not stop singing Kingdom songs. Since they could not carry the official songbook with them, they memorized the songs to continue singing them and feel close to Jehovah. This shows how much they valued these songs, as they gave them encouragement and helped them remain firm in their faith.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Our brothers in Siberia showed that they valued singing Kingdom songs highly by continuing to sing from what was in their hearts and minds, despite persecution and lack of publications. They made copies of the 1928 songbook and continued to sing secretly for decades, showing their dedication and love for praising Jehovah, even in the darkest of times.

Despite not having access to the most recent songbooks and facing serious consequences if discovered, the brothers in Siberia did not stop singing. This was a demonstration of their deep faith and desire to praise Jehovah with songs even in the midst of adversity. Jehovah blessed their perseverance and in 1992 they were finally able to sing publicly at the first international convention in the former Soviet Union.

During Brother Frederick Franz's address, it was emphasized that it is appropriate and pleasing to God that His servants sing. And the brothers' excitement upon receiving the songbook reflected the importance of this event for the congregation, as it marked the return of singing in the meetings after 6 years.

Our brothers in Siberia demonstrated a deep courage in singing Kingdom songs despite intense persecution during World War II. Although they lacked recent publications and only had the 1928 songbook, they found creative ways to present and share the music. With hand-made copies and singing in secret, our brothers in Siberia kept the custom of singing Kingdom songs alive for decades.

Their dedication and love for worship and music gave them strength and comfort in times of darkness. Despite the risk of being sent to concentration camps or facing forced labor, they continued to sing with passion and faith. Their inspiring example shows us that music can be a powerful means of resilience and hope in times of adversity.

The effort to memorize the songs shows how they saw them as a spiritual treasure. They had no books or resources, but they kept the lyrics in their hearts to continue worshiping Jehovah anywhere.

Singing gave them hope and encouragement in the midst of trials. Despite being isolated and facing persecution, singing united them and reminded them that Jehovah was with them.
