TREASURES FROM GOD'S WORD: May 27, June 2, 2024, Make the most of the teaching that comes from Jehovah, Prepared Discourse.
Make the most of the teaching that comes from Jehovah (10 mins.).
For this week in this section of Bible Treasures, we have the theme: “Make the most of the teaching that comes from Jehovah.” So one more week we met to reflect on the importance of making the most of the teaching that comes from Jehovah. This topic not only brings us closer to our creator, but also unites us as a congregation, strengthening our ties and our faith. I want to begin by remembering the words of the psalms that inspire us and guide us in our spiritual walk. In Psalms 42 verses 4 and 5 we read:
LET'S READ PSALM 42:4,5.
I remember these things, and I open my heart, because there was a time when I walked with the crowd; He walked before them solemnly to the house of God amidst shouts of joy and expressions of gratitude, shouts of a crowd celebrating a festival. 5 Why am I desperate? Why do I feel this turmoil inside me? I will wait for God, because I will praise him again as my Great Savior.
These words evoke nostalgia for times gone by, when we worshiped Jehovah in the company of our brothers, celebrating together and filling ourselves with joy. However, they also confront us with moments of despair, difficult moments in our lives.
We have all gone through periods in which we have felt alienated from our congregation, but as the Psalmist says in those moments of loneliness and despair, we remember the happy times spent with our brothers as they can sustain us. It reminds us that Jehovah is our refuge and that we must wait on him for relief.
It is essential not to miss any opportunity to worship Jehovah with our brothers and that whenever it is possible to do so when meeting with our brothers in the faith, it gives us a special strength and joy that we can hardly find anywhere else. Worshiping with our brothers allows us to share experiences, support each other and grow together in our faith. Psalm 42:8 also tells us:
LET'S READ PSALM 42:8
By day, Jehovah will grant me his loyal love; At night, he will accompany me with his song: a prayer to the God of my life.
This verse reminds us of the importance of prayer. Before studying the word of God we must pray that Jehovah would grant us his spirit and his proper attitude. Barbara, a sister that we have as a reference in the information for this week, this sister has served many years in the mission field and she says that I always say a prayer before reading or studying the Bible, she says that after doing that she says: "I feel that Jehovah supports me and approves what I do"
Prayer prepares us mentally and emotionally to receive the spiritual food we so need. Making the most of Jehovah's teaching also means letting the truth of the Bible guide every aspect of our lives. Psalms 43:3 says.
LET'S READ PSALM 43:3
Send your light and your truth. Let them direct me; May they guide me to your holy mountain and your great tabernacle.
These requests for Jehovah to guide us with his light and truth towards his presence, the education we receive in meetings, assemblies and Bible schools, make us stronger and help us fulfill our Christian responsibilities. In 1 Peter 5:10 he tells us,
LET'S READ 1 PETER 5:10.
Now, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all undeserved kindness, who called you to his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself finish your training. He will make them firm,b he will make them strong,c he will put them on a solid foundation.
We must do everything possible to gain the strength that comes from this biblical education. Jehovah helped his people overcome great challenges in the past and gave us the strength we need to fulfill our preaching mission despite any opposition or concerns we face. However, we should not expect that Jehovah will perform miracles without us doing our part. We must read the Bible daily, study the information on the meetings, attend them regularly and pray constantly to Jehovah. Philippians 2:13 tells us
LET'S READ PHILIPPIANS 2:13
13 Because God is the one who, just as he pleases, fills you with energy, giving you both the desire and the strength to act.
In order for his good will to finally be fulfilled, it is important that we also worry about strengthening the hands of others, by doing so we are not only helping our brothers, but we are also strengthening our own faith and our sense of brotherhood.
When we see a brother or sister who is struggling, we must be quick to offer our support, both in prayer and in action. In our activity guide for this week we can see a very encouraging image and we can define it in the following way, the teaching that comes from Jehovah gives us the strength to act, to endure trials and fulfill our promise to serve him forever, and that is what we see in this illustration, how these sisters are paying attention to a program, most likely it is in an assembly and they are paying attention and we can see in their faces that they are benefiting from what they are hearing.
So the truth of the Bible can be a reliable and lasting guide in all aspects of our God. By studying his teachings and applying them in our daily lives we can make informed and conscious decisions, have ongoing personal transformation, and find direction in the midst of the challenging situations we face. So brothers, let the truth of the Bible guide us in every step we take towards a full and meaningful life.
