“Help Young People Be Happy Serving Jehovah” (10 min.)
Young man, imagine that you are going to take a long bus trip to attend an important event, when you arrive at the station you are overwhelmed by the large number of people and buses, but since you are very clear about where you want to go, you go to the bus that will take you there, obviously you will not get on a bus that will take you to another place.
Life is like that trip and young people are like the people at the bus station. Since they have many decisions to make in life, they may feel overwhelmed at times, but if they are clear about where they want to go, it will be easier for them to make the decisions that take them to the right place.
There is no doubt then that young people who focus on serving Jehovah can be sure that he will bless them that they will be successful in life and happy, for these reasons we must support and help them. Consider the example of Solomon being very young Jehovah assigned him a great privilege, let's read in the Bible what it is about let's read 1 Chronicles chapter 22 verse 5 says:
WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 22:5.
And David said: “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for Jehovah must be exceedingly great, so that its fame and beauty may be known in all countries. That is why I am going to make preparations for him.” So David had many materials ready before his death.
David might have thought that Solomon was not qualified to direct such an important work, after all the temple must be extremely magnificent and Solomon was young and inexperienced, but he knew that God would enable Solomon to carry out the project that had been entrusted to him. . So he concentrated on how he could help and prepared a large amount of materials. The following words show how David helped his young son Solomon to be happy serving Jehovah, let's read 1 Chronicles chapter 22 verse 11 to 13 says:
WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 22:11,13.
“Now, my son, may Jehovah be with you, and may it go well with you and you succeed in building the house of Jehovah your God, just as he has said concerning you. 12 Above all, may the Lord give you prudence and understanding when he gives you authority over Israel, so that you may obey the law of the Lord your God. 13 If you carefully follow the rules and judicial decisions that Moses gave Israel by Jehovah's command, then you will do well. Be strong and brave. Don't be afraid or terrified.
We see that David encouraged Solomon to trust in Jehovah and then put to work, let's see another beautiful quality of David, now let's read in 1 Chronicles chapter 22 verse 14 to 16 says:
WE ARE GOING TO READ 1 CHRONICLES 22:14,16.
With much effort, I prepared for the house of Jehovah 100,000 talents* of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and such a large amount of copper and iron that it cannot be weighed; I also left wood and stone ready, but you will get more. 15 You have a large number of workers: stonecutters, masons, carpenters and all kinds of skilled workers. 16 The amount of gold, silver, copper and iron is incalculable. Get to work, and may Jehovah be with you.”
David was not egotistical or disappointed by thinking that he would not take credit for the construction, nor did he withdraw his support for the project and indeed the building became known as Solomon's temple, not David's. Perhaps David was frustrated that he could not fulfill his wish, but he offered his full support, enthusiastically organizing work parties, and gathering iron, copper, silver, gold, and cedar wood.
He also encouraged Solomon, he said to him: now my son may Jehovah prove to be with you and you must achieve success and build the house of Jehovah your God, just as he has spoken concerning you. What does this story teach us? First of all, as parents we must help our children to see serving Jehovah as the most important thing in their lives, and that by doing so they will be able to be happy.
Since we cannot help our children to love Jehovah, he will give us abundant spiritual food through his word and organization. For example, you'll find excellent advice in the Help for Families section that was published in Awake magazine for many years and now appears on jw.org on our website. They will also find videos with interviews and role plays that will help them apply Jehovah's counsel for raising children.
Another aspect that parents should do in order to help is lead by example, children and young people are very observant and tend to copy what their parents do, of course nobody is perfect, but parents who are wise try their best to set a good example. So, if we want our children to love Jehovah, our love for him must be strong and obvious.
In what ways can the other brothers encourage the young people? In order for them to be happy serving Jehovah, congregation elders can support the work of parents, such as speaking positively about spiritual goals, a sister recalls that when she was six years old, Brother Russell spent 15 minutes talking with her about her spiritual goals, this sister was a pioneer for more than 70 years, this gives us an idea of the good effect positive comments have on a person's life.
Another thing that the elders can do is ask the parents and their children to collaborate in the Kingdom Hall tasks, giving the children appropriate tasks for their age and ability. How can the other brothers help? Demonstrating an appropriate interest in the youth, among other things they may be on the lookout for details that indicate they are making progress, for example: When a youth gave a well-prepared comment in their own words or had an assignment at the midweek meeting, passed a test of faith, he took an opportunity to preach at the school.
So let's not miss the opportunity to congratulate him from the bottom of our hearts, let's set ourselves the goal of talking to young people before or after the meetings, this type of initiative helps them feel part of the congregation. Therefore let us continue to do all we can to help our children and our young people to love Jehovah and raise them according to his discipline and his advice, if we do so we can be convinced that our loving heavenly father will be very happy with us .
Thank you for the wonderful work that you do. I am a bible student, and I am learning a lot by your works. It also helps me to prepare for the meetings as well, as I now can fully understand each part. Thank you again.
