DAILY TEXT, From today Sunday February 5, For the love of the house of my God, I also give gold and silver from my own treasury for the house of my God (1 Chron. 29:3).

Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2023

Sunday February 5

For the sake of the house of my God, I also give gold and silver from my own treasury for the house of my God (1 Chron. 29:3).

King David donated a huge amount of his wealth to support the construction of the temple (1 Chron. 22:11-16). If you are older and your strength does not allow you to collaborate with our construction projects, you can continue supporting them with your donations as far as circumstances allow. And share with the younger ones the experience you have gained. The apostle Paul was also an example of generosity. He invited young Timothy to accompany him on his missionary journeys and taught him his preaching and teaching methods (Acts 16:1-3). The training that Paul gave him helped him to be a skilled teacher of the good news (1 Cor. 4:17). And Timothy, in turn, used what Paul had taught him to train others. w21.09 12 pars. 14, 15.

How did a member of a Branch Committee demonstrate modesty?

An example of modesty today is a brother named Shigeo. In 1976, when he was 30 years old, he was appointed to a Branch Committee. In 2004, he became the coordinator of this committee. Over time he realized that he no longer had the strength of before and he was not so fast in his work. So he spoke to Jehovah about the matter and thought of the advantages of having a younger brother take his place. Today, he is no longer the coordinator, but he is still part of the Branch Committee and working with its members. The examples of Barzillai, King David and Shigeo teach us that a humble and modest person does not focus on the lack of experience of the young, but on their strengths. He will see them as his companions, not his rivals (Prov. 20:29).

How do the older brothers view the younger ones in the congregation?

The older brothers see the younger ones as gifts from Jehovah and are very grateful for what they do. As their strength dwindles, they appreciate that those who are young and strong are willing and able to work to meet the needs of the congregation.

How does Ruth 4:13-16 show that the older ones benefit when they appreciate the help of the younger ones?

Naomi is an excellent example the Bible gives of an older person being grateful and accepting help from someone younger. After Naomi's son died, she told her daughter-in-law Ruth to return to her family. But when Ruth insisted on accompanying her to Bethlehem, Naomi accepted her help (Ruth 1:7, 8, 18). And this was a great blessing for both of them (read Ruth 4:13-16). Humble older siblings follow Naomi's example.

How did the apostle Paul show that he was thankful?

The Apostle Paul is another example of someone who appreciated the help they gave him. On one occasion, he thanked the Christians in Philippi for the help they had sent him (Phil. 4:16). Furthermore, he expressed his gratitude for what Timothy had done for him (Phil. 2:19-22). And he thanked God for the brothers who went to encourage him when he was a prisoner on the way to Rome (Acts 28:15). Paul was an energetic man who had traveled thousands of miles to preach and strengthen congregations. But he didn't let his pride stop him from accepting help from his brothers.

How can the older siblings show that they appreciate what the younger ones are doing?

Older brothers, there are many ways you can show appreciation for what the younger members of your congregation are doing. If they offer to drive you somewhere, go shopping, or attend to other necessary matters, gratefully accept their help. See it as an expression of Jehovah's love. Who knows if that is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Always be interested in the spiritual progress of these young people. Tell them how happy you are to see that there are young people who are striving to do more in the congregation. And be willing to spend time with them and tell them about your experiences. When they do, they will show “their thanks” to Jehovah for the young men he has brought into the congregation.—Col. 3:15; John 6:44; 1 Thess. 5:18.
