TREASURES OF THE BIBLE, 28-November-4-December 2022, An evil and ambitious woman receives what she deserves, Prepared Speech.
“A mean and ambitious woman gets what she deserves” (10 min.)
Have you heard this saying: Like father, like son? It is true that we have heard it many times, and this saying fits this character called Athalía very well. She was the daughter of Jezebel, and what was she like, Jezebel? She, she says that she had no qualms about shedding innocent blood to advance her aspirations. in the same way also Athaliah. Both were heavily involved in idolatry.
What comes to mind when you hear the name Athaliah, perhaps an ambitious, idolatrous evil woman crazed with power comes to mind, right? what happened to Athalía to make a bad and ambitious woman, what do you think if we look for the story? Let's look please in the Bible in 2 Kings 11:1, and keep an eye out because we are going to analyze some more verses it says like this:
WE ARE GOING TO READ 2 KINGS 11:1.
Now when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son had died, she exterminated the entire royal lineage.
Just as you have to know brothers, Athaliah also urged her husband to do what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah. During her reign, when Athaliah saw that her son died, he ordered the killing of all the king's sons, but what happened next? In the course of the speech we will answer that question. At this moment we are going to focus on the small box that we have in our Activity Guide.
In this box we have the text of 2 Kings 8:9 It tells us that the entire house of Ahab will die, and were these words of Jehovah fulfilled? Of course, there we see the people of God divided, both the kingdom of Judah and the kingdom of Israel, and there we can notice brothers that in the year 911 before the common era Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat became the sole ruler and later and in the year 906 Ahazias also became king, and in 905 Athaliah ordered the killing of all the king's lineage and in 898 Jehoash became king and the same thing also happened in the kingdom of Israel.
Now what happened? Did Athalía exterminate the entire royal lineage as she thought? Now let's look at the following verses from 2 Kings 11:2 and 3. Yes, he found it. Please join me in the reading. It goes like this:
WE ARE GOING TO READ 2 KINGS 11:2,3.
However, Jehoseba daughter of King Jehoram, sister of Ahaziah, secretly took Jehoash son of Ahaziah away from the other sons of the king who were going to be killed. She put him with her nurse in a bedroom, and thus they managed to keep him hidden from Athalía. That way, they didn't kill him. 3 He hid with her in the house of Jehovah for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
As we have read, brothers, in this story, Athalía did not completely finish the royal lineage, who was this brave man who saved the child, so to speak, from Athalía's claws.
Jehoseba saved and hid Jehoshaphat access to one of the heirs to the throne and hid him for 6 years. And what happened during those 6 years? Let's read again in the following accounts of 2 Kings chapter 11:12-16.
WE ARE GOING TO READ 2 KINGS 11:12-16.
So Jehoiada brought out the king's son and put the crown* and the Testimony*b on him. They made him king and anointed him, and they started clapping their hands and saying, “Long live the king!” 13 When Athaliah heard people running, she immediately went to the people who were in the house of the LORD. 14 Then she saw the king standing by the pillar, as was the custom. The chiefs and the trumpeters were with the king, all the people. The people of the country were very happy, and they blew the trumpets. Instantly, Athaliah tore her clothes and shouted: “Conspiracy! Conspiracy!". 15 But Jehoiada the priest commanded the commanders of a hundred, those in command of the army, “Take her out of the ranks, and if anyone follows her, put them to death with the sword!” And it is that the priest had said "Do not kill her in the house of Jehovah." 16 So they seized her and, when they came to the place where the horses enter the king's house, they killed her there.
Once brothers, when Jehoás was 7 years old, the high priest Jehoiadá, who was a God-fearing man, took him out of hiding and made him the legitimate king of the throne, after Jehoiadá made a pact with Jehovah and also with the people and the King in that pact they promised to continue being the people of Jehovah and they came to exterminate the temples of Baal and also the high priest of Baal.
All the brotherly people of the country were very glad and the city was at peace and Jehoash was 7 years old when he began to reign. So Jehovah brothers put his trust in this child and also in all those who helped him to be the legitimate king of that time.
n the youth of the congregation, if you are young and have set a goal, are you reaching it? because Satan the devil brothers is not happy with the youth, because they know that the youth are the future of the congregation, so we must stay alert in Satan's traps.
Now that we can say brothers about this question that is at the end of our activity guide, how does this story show that what Proverbs 11 21 and Ecclesiastes 8 11 and 13 say is surely true that each of us has already meditated on these verses? there it is mentioned that the wicked will not go well nor will they nor will they be able to extend their life. Just like what happened to this queen, Athalía got what she deserved today, brothers, bad people sooner or later will also get what she deserved.
