TREASURES OF THE BIBLE, October 10-16, 2022, “The Lord Will Give You His Full Support,” Prepared Speech.
“Jehovah Will Support You” (10 min.)
Have you ever felt that your heart begins to beat faster than usual, you feel cold but at the same time you are sweating, then you get tremors and that makes it difficult for you to breathe and little by little you feel weak and have weakness in your body and dizziness and finally he feels a tingling in his hands and a pain in his chest. Well, if you have ever felt it, it is because they are the symptoms that the human body produces when it is under a panic or fear attack.
Generally this happens very rarely, we can say that we feel it when we face intense fear, if you have not felt it it is because you have not been under pressure. But why do we mention these symptoms? Well we mention it because a Biblical character felt that way, and what was his reaction? Let's see please in First Kings 19: 3 and 4.
LET'S READ 1 KINGS 19:3,4.
He was so afraid that he fled for his life.a He came to Beer-Sheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his assistant there. 4 He went into the desert and walked for a day until he came to a broom and sat down under it. He asked for death saying: “Enough already! Oh, Jehovah, take my life, because I am no better than my ancestors.”
Just as this character felt fear, the servants of God today also feel fear, for example many who have had to face the courts to defend their faith, others who have lost their lives under ban. While it is true that fear will always be there, what we can do is counteract its effects.
In many cases fear can make the person betray their principles, for example, although it is mentioned that many brothers have remained faithful there have also been brothers who have died, however studying the example will help us to remain loyal.
As we said before, Elias was very scared and ran away, he even asked Jehovah to take his life and this was because he was an imperfect man, he had feelings similar to ours, all this added to the stress and physical exhaustion made him discouraged. he thought that all he had done for pure worship had been in vain. He had not improved at all and that he was the only one who was serving Jehovah and that Elijah's work had also been in vain
LET'S READ 1 KINGS 19:5-7
Then he lay down and fell asleep under the broom. But suddenly an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat something." When he looked, he saw next to his head a round loaf of bread on heated stones and a pitcher of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again. 7 Later, Jehovah's angel returned a second time, touched him and said: “Get up, eat. If not, the journey will be too much for you."
How Jehovah felt when he saw his prophet imploring death, well, as the text mentioned, Jehovah did not criticize him for the way he had acted to flee before his enemies. Rather, he took care of him. and we can see that after Elijah fell asleep he says that Jehovah sent an Angel and raised him up to eat, then he went back to sleep and Jehovah waited for his prophet to recover all his strength.
we can see Jehovah's patience and care as a protective father. What happened after this event, since Elijah was discouraged, Jehovah worked to restore Elijah's confidence, how did he do it? Let's look at the first book of Kings chapter 10 verses 11 and 12.
LET'S READ 1 KINGS 19:11,12.
But God said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And it turned out that Jehovah was passing by. And a strong and devastating wind split the mountains and broke the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but Jehovah was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake there was fire, but Jehovah was not in the fire. And after the fire came a calm, low voice.
How did Elijah help him see Jehovah's power in the forces of nature? Let us remember that he had been afraid of Ahab and Jezebel, if we had found ourselves in this situation, we would also be afraid. We know that Jezebel killed many of Jehovah's servants this fear paralyzed Elijah, now seeing the power of Jehovah there was no reason to fear Ahab and Jezebel.
Jehovah had shown him how powerful he was compared to 2 imperfect human beings. So Elias, with his strength recovered, now with great confidence in Jehovah, prepared himself for the next mission that Jehovah had for him, let us please read 1 Kings Chapter 19 verse 15 to 18.
LET'S READ 1 KINGS 19:15-19.
Jehovah told him: “Go back and go to the desert of Damascus. When you arrive, anoint Hazaela as King of Syria. 16 Anoint Jehu, Nimsi's grandson, as king of Israel. And anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel-Meholah as a prophet to take your place. 17 Whoever escapes the sword of Hazaeld Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu will be killed by Elisha. 18 In Israel I still have 7,000 who have not knelt before Baal and have not kissed him.”
This account makes us see how compassionate Jehovah is and that he understands his servants. We see that when one feels fear, Jehovah does the same thing he did for Elijah, first he makes sure that we are well, then he does not criticize us for the way we act. Jehovah understands that we are imperfect sinful human beings and that sometimes our feelings betray us, and when we feel destroyed he encourages us to continue trusting him.
Jehovah uses our brothers in the congregation so that we have that same confidence again and become strong, powerful to stand out and succeed in the test in which we are living, the illustration that we see below reminds us that as servants of Jehovah we go to find ourselves in situations similar to those that Elias went through, perhaps not the same ones, it may be that some of us present find ourselves in the same situation but not all of them are going to be the same, what we do know is that these tests can cause fear in us and fear, what can we do? We have 2 principles that we can remember, perhaps if you have a piece of paper or a pencil at hand, write down these two principles and keep them in mind if it is possible to learn them so that when we find ourselves in situations like these these two texts can help us.
1 CORINTHIANS 15:58:
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm, unmovable, and always be very busy in the work of the Lord, knowing that your work related to the Lord is not in vain.
COLOSSIANS 3:23
Whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly* as if it were for Jehovah and not for men.
So when we are in trials, let us remember to stand firm and immovable, since our work is not in vain, it is for Jehovah. Let us remember firm and immovable. Jehovah, never forgets the works of our hands, and let us not forget that whatever we do, let us do it with all our soul. That is why, brothers, let us remain FIRM AND IMMOVABLE, that Jehovah will help us in his due time, just as he did with Elijah.
