APLPLY YOUR SELFTO THE FIELD MINISTRY: July 18-24, 2022, Lecture, Lesson 13, Prepared Assignment.
Address (5 mins.): w06 8/15 21 pars. 7, 8. Title: Is Satan directly responsible for all our misfortunes? (th lec. 13).
When we usually go through problems, difficulties, injustices, misfortunes, we may think about why these things happen to us, because we are victims of what is happening to us. In the case of Christians, we also have to endure many difficulties, many face persecution or family problems, others are overwhelmed by economic difficulties or poor health and some have even died for their faith. Obviously we know that Jehovah is not to blame, and rather, the cause of all suffering is Satan the Devil.
But, is Satan always directly responsible for our misfortunes? The answer is no, and sometimes it must be understood that misfortunes are consequences of our own mistakes or of some inherited physical disorder, as mentioned in Galatians 6:7, as it says here we must sow what we reap and if what we sow were errors or bad things, what will we reap? We all know the answer.
Likewise, it may be that some misfortunes that we go through are due to natural disasters or something natural such as old age, can we avoid such havoc? No, and the answer is in Ecclesiastes 9:11, as he explains to us here, in our times, Jehovah does not miraculously delivers his servants from these afflictions.
Of course, Satan can take advantage of these or other difficulties to weaken our faith, for example, the Bible mentions in 2 Corinthians 12:7 that Paul was suffering from a thorn in the flesh that he recognized came from Satan and would not let him in peace. It may have been a physical ailment or some other problem. In any case, Paul knew that Satan could use this “thorn” and the frustration it caused him to take away his joy and undermine his integrity.
Remember what Proverbs 24:10 mentions, which says, the Devil can incite relatives, classmates or even dictatorial governments to harass the servants of God in various ways, we must not let ourselves be overcome by the misfortunes that we may go through, so that we must always have a strong faith, in this way we will not allow Satan to use the misfortunes we go through to weaken us.
