TREASURES OF THE BIBLE, May 16-22, 2022, “What do we learn from the song 'The Arch'?”, Prepared Speech.
“What do we learn from the song 'El Arco'?” (10 min.)
Loyalty is something that is commonly confused today and is also subject to the circumstances that surround it. But what is loyalty? According to the Hebrew Scriptures, it is the sense of goodness that lovingly attaches itself to an object and does not depart until it has fulfilled its purpose for it. Loyalty is something broader than fidelity. How is it different? Because a person can be faithful just by doing his duty. While biblical loyalty is born of love, of attachment without conditions.
That is why loyalty is marked by affection. And that is what we are going to deal with briefly in this section of Treasures of the Bible with the title: «What we learn from the song the Arch».
LET'S READ: 2 Samuel 1:17,18,23,24.
17 Then David sang a song of mourning* for Saul and for his son Jonathan, 18 and said that it should be taught to the people of Judah. This song of mourning, called “The Bow,” is written in the book of Khasar and says: 23 Saul and Jonathan, beloved and beloved* in life, even in death were they not separated. They were faster than eagles, stronger than lions. 24 O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul, who dressed you in scarlet red and luxury, and put gold ornaments on your clothes.
So the song the Bow was a song of mourning the death of Saul and Jonathan. And very well we have reviewed through several chapters of First Samuel, the treatment that Saul gave to David, and even so he was very respectful of the anointed of Jehovah. An excellent example for us, who always want to respect the elders of the congregation, even if at some point they may do something we don't like, or towards someone or towards ourselves. That's a great way to respect those in authority.
LET'S READ: 2 Samuel 1:25,26.
25 How the mighty have fallen in battle! Jonathan is dead on your high places! 26 I am distressed for you, my brother, Jonathan; he loved you so much. For me, your love surpassed the love of women.
We all remember the pact that Jonathan and David made, and the deep love they had for each other. And here King David is expressing it. The two swore allegiance to each other. An attachment to the end. In this case, Jonathan represents our brothers in the congregation, to whom we also need to show loyalty, attachment, affection without conditions.
And in our congregation we have so many brothers that if we look closely at their lives, some go through such complicated situations that we could at some point help them to have the necessary encouragement or sometimes, even the material things that they need so much. Our loyalty should not only be in moments when we are well, either towards the elders or towards our brothers in the congregation.
This excellent song. The bow is a clear demonstration of someone who was loyal both to Jehovah's anointed one, although he did not behave well with him, and also to the members of his spiritual family. Let us really appreciate Jehovah that he has given so many good people around us that we want to prove our loyalty to them forever.
