The Watchtower Study, “Article 9”, April 25-May 1, 2022, Imitating Jesus in Serving Others, Answers.

1. What good attitude do Jehovah's people display?

Jehovah's people show the best attitude, because they enthusiastically dedicate hundreds of millions of hours to preaching and they do it voluntarily and do not charge anything. They also give physical, emotional and spiritual support to all the brothers who need it.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

An attitude of service and in most cases without any financial reimbursement, that is, it is a volunteer job.

The Bible foretold that Jehovah's people would volunteer to serve him following the guidance of his Son (Ps. 110:3). Without a doubt, this prophecy is being fulfilled today. Every year, God's servants enthusiastically devote hundreds of millions of hours to the preaching work voluntarily and free of charge. They also use some of their time to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to their siblings.

In Psalm 110:3, he says that “your people will offer themselves willingly”, to serve him following the guidance of his son. And a fact that proves it is that every year, the servants of God, we dedicate hundreds of millions of hours to preaching. And we do it enthusiastically and willingly.

We also demonstrate this good attitude by giving physical, emotional and spiritual support to our brothers. And especially the elders spend much of their time preparing for meetings and making shepherding calls. And we do everything out of love for Jehovah and our neighbor.

2. According to Romans 15:1-3, what example did Jesus give us?

The best example that Jesus gave us was, putting the needs of other people above his own, Jesus is the best example that it is better to give than to receive.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Jesus put the needs of others above his own, and we Christians do our best to follow his magnificent example.

Jesus said, "There is more happiness in giving than in receiving."

Jesus showed that he put the interests and needs of others before his own. And we must do the same. As we read in verse 2: "Let each one of us please his neighbor for his benefit." If we do, we will be happy.

3. What will we analyze in this article?

First we will review some of the many sacrifices that Jesus made for others. We will also analyze in this article how we can copy the great example that it gives us.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

In this article, we'll review some of the sacrifices Jesus made for others and discuss how we can copy his example.

Let's review some of the sacrifices that Jesus made for others and how we can copy his example. We will also see what we can do to be willing to serve others.

LET US IMITATE THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS

4. How did Jesus show that he put the needs of others above his own?

Jesus had been praying all night, so he was very tired, but when he saw the people who needed him, he took pity on the sick and the needy, and healed them, he also gave a speech.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Jesus helped others even when he was tired. Think about his reaction when a crowd of people came to see him on a mountainside, perhaps near Capernaum.

Jesus had been praying all night, so he must have been very tired. But, when he saw all those people, he felt sorry for the poor and the sick.

Not only did he heal them, but he also gave one of the most motivational speeches of all time: the Sermon on the Mount.

One occasion where he showed it was when a crowd of people reached out for help. Although he had been praying all night and would be very tired, when he saw these people he took pity on them and took care of them.

ILLUSTRATION:

Jesus teaches a large crowd of people.

Although Jesus was tired, what did he do when a crowd came to see him? (See paragraph 4).

5. How do householders imitate Jesus' sacrificial spirit when they are tired?

A father of a family who has just arrived home very tired from work, knows that that night he has family adoration. Although he feels very tempted not to do it because he is very tired, he prays to Jehovah to give him strength. And Jehovah helps him and the whole family can be together in worship. The children learn a lesson, which is that spiritual things have to be the most important thing.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Consider a father who comes home very tired after a long day at work. That night he has family worship. He is tempted to leave it for another day, but asks Jehovah to give him strength. That night the children learn a valuable lesson: that spiritual things are the most important thing for their parents.

Perhaps a parent arrives tired from a long day at work and thinks about leaving family worship for another day. But then Jehovah prays to give him strength. And finally they do family worship like every week. In this way he is imitating Jesus by interposing the needs of his family with his own.

In addition, both the father and the mother are being a good example for their children because they have been able to observe that, although their father is tired, they have given more importance to spiritual matters.

ILLUSTRATION:

Series of images: 1. A father comes home tired after a long day at work. 2. he prays to Jehovah from his heart. 3. He studies with his wife and his two children.

In what ways can we copy the sacrificial spirit of Jesus in our lives? (See paragraph 5).

6. Name a time when Jesus sacrificed some of his time to help others.

Jesus had just found out that his friend John the Baptist had been executed, and he felt sad, he left and wanted to be alone. But a large crowd was already waiting for him in that secluded place. Jesus thought about the needs that those people were going through and realized that they needed spiritual relief and he gave them that without thinking, despite what he was feeling.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Jesus had just learned that his friend John the Baptist had been executed, and he must have felt very sad. The Bible says: "When Jesus received the news, he left there and went out in a boat to a secluded place to be alone." But that was not going to be possible for Jesus, because a large crowd was already waiting for him in that secluded place. What did he do? He thought about the needs of those people and "was deeply moved." He realized that they urgently needed spiritual relief, and he gave it to them without a second thought.

The paragraph mentions when John the Baptist was executed and Jesus wanted to be alone to mourn his death. But what happened is that where Jesus went there were already people waiting for him. However, he was not upset, but was deeply moved and did not hesitate to give spiritual relief to these people.

7, 8. Give an example of how the elders imitate Jesus when someone needs help.

When there is a medical emergency, members of the Hospital Liaison Committees are quick to help brothers in need, often in the middle of the night. The elders also help in the construction of Kingdom Halls and other buildings, as well as in relief efforts.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

They make many sacrifices of which we have no idea. For example, when there is a medical emergency, members of the Hospital Liaison Committees are quick to help brothers in need, often in the middle of the night. Others participate in construction work, teaching, herding.

Of course, as is expected of any Christian, the elders must be balanced. They should not spend so much time attending to their theocratic responsibilities that they neglect the well-being of their families.

We have the case when there is a medical emergency. The liaison committees with the Hospitals immediately give help to the brothers who need it, even if it is in the middle of the night. This shows that they imitate Jesus, because when someone needs help they act out of compassion and put the well-being of their brothers above their own.

The elderly also collaborate in the construction of halls and in relief work. They also teach and encourage the brothers of their congregations. Thus they show that they imitate Jesus, and they deserve our praise for it.

HOW TO CULTIVATE THE SPIRIT OF SACRIFICE

9. According to Philippians 2:4, 5, what mental attitude should all Christians develop?

We must take  the form of a slave. A good slave or serf looks for ways to please his master. Just as we seek to please Jehovah, we are slaves and servants of our brothers and we want to be useful to our God.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

It is true that we are not all elders, but we can all learn from the sacrificial spirit of Jesus. The Bible says that he "took the form of a slave."

A good slave or serf looks for ways to please his master. Since we are slaves of Jehovah and servants of our brothers, we want to be more and more useful to our God and our companions.

We must develop the same mental attitude that Jesus had. The Bible says that "he took the form of a slave." That is, he was willing to serve and teach the people of his time and please his Father. We likewise want to be more and more useful to Jehovah and to the brothers.

10. What self-examination can we do?

Ask yourself, “Am I willing to make personal sacrifices to help others? How do I react, for example, if I am asked to visit an older brother or bring an older sister to meetings? Do I immediately offer to help with the cleanup of an assembly site or the upkeep of the Kingdom Hall?”

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Let's ask ourselves: “Am I willing to make personal sacrifices to help others? How do I react, for example, if I am asked to visit an older brother or bring an older sister to meetings? Do I immediately offer to help with the cleanup of an assembly site or the upkeep of the Kingdom Hall?” When we dedicated ourselves to Jehovah, we promised him that we would use everything we have to serve him, including our time and resources. So he feels very happy when we selflessly use them to help others.

To find out if we have the right attitude we can ask ourselves if I am willing to make personal sacrifices to help others or what my attitude is when I am told to bring an older sister to meetings.

Another question is whether we immediately offer to clean our Kingdom Hall or the Assembly halls. Doing so will show that we have a good attitude and make sure we use our time and resources in the best way.

11. How can prayer help us cultivate the spirit of sacrifice?

If you need to improve in some area, but do not feel like it, pray to Jehovah from your heart.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

If we realize that we need to improve in some area, but you do not feel like doing so, pray to Jehovah from your heart. He be honest. Tell him how he feels and ask him to give you "both the desire and the strength to act."

If we recognize that we need to improve in some area, but we do not have the desire to do so, it is very important to pray to Jehovah asking him to give us that “desire and the strength to act”, as Philippians 2:13 says, and it will surely help us To do it.

12. How can young baptized men help the organization?

In some places there are more elders than ministerial servants, as the organization continues to grow, more young brothers are needed to help the elders care for Jehovah's people.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Asking God to help them have the desire to do more in the congregation. In some places there are more elders than ministerial servants, and many of those ministerial servants are already of a certain age. As the organization continues to grow, more younger brothers are needed to help the elders care for Jehovah's people.

Young baptized men can be very helpful in your congregation. In many congregations the ministerial servants are already of a certain age and there is a need for mature young brothers to assist the elders in caring for Jehovah's people. Also, if they offer themselves willingly, they will make Jehovah and the brothers happy, and they themselves will feel satisfied.

13, 14. What can we do to help our brothers? (See cover drawing.)

We must be attentive to the needs of other people. "Do not forget to do good or to share what you have with others, because these sacrifices are very pleasing to God."

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Be attentive to the needs of others. The apostle Paul gave this advice in his letter to the Hebrews: “Do not forget to do good or to share what you have with others, because these sacrifices are very pleasing to God.” What timely words! Shortly after receiving this letter, the Judean brothers had to leave their non-Christian homes, businesses, and relatives and flee to the mountains. It is clear that at that time it was very important that they help each other.

To help our brothers we have to be attentive to their needs. That's what Paul told the Hebrews. He reminded her in Hebrews 13:16, to "not forget to do good or to share what you have with others." All who followed this advice found it easier to adjust to the new life they would lead when they fled to the mountains.

And maybe a brother is embarrassed to ask us for a favor because he doesn't want to be a bother. That is why we must be attentive and offer ourselves to help them. If we put ourselves in his place and do not think that there will already be another brother to help him, we will rejoice Jehovah and show sincere love to our brothers.

ILLUSTRATION:

The Judean Christians had to flee and cross the Jordan River to reach the city of Pella. Those who had arrived first distribute food to the brothers who have just arrived. (See paragraph 13).

15. What should we do if we want to help others?

If we want to help others we must be accessible. Surely there are brothers and sisters in our congregation who are always willing to help others.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Be accessible. Surely there are brothers and sisters in our congregation who are always willing to help others. They never make us feel that we are a burden. On the contrary, we know that we can always count on them, and we want to follow their example.

A 45-year-old man named Alan has made it his goal to be accessible. Thinking about the example of Jesus, he says: “Jesus was a busy man, but people of all ages wanted to be with him and did not hesitate to ask him for help. They knew that he truly cared about them.

If we want to help others we must be accessible; that the brothers notice in us that we are there, ready to help them in whatever they need. And that was what an old man named Alan proposed, but he left the comment to another brother.

And continuing with the brother/sister's comment, this elder set himself the goal of being accessible. His goal was to imitate the example of Jesus. He comments that, although Jesus was a very busy man, people approached him, which tells us that people saw him as accessible. And this old man wants his brothers to also see him as accessible, affectionate and attentive, like Jesus.

16. How does Psalm 119:59, 60 help us faithfully follow Jesus' example?

An art student cannot perfectly imitate his teacher, but if he can learn from his mistakes and strive to imitate his teacher to the best of his ability, he will improve.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

We must have and strive to maintain a good attitude, not give up or be discouraged if we fail to perfectly imitate the example of Jesus. An art student cannot perfectly imitate his teacher, but if he learns from his mistakes and strives to imitate his teacher to the best of his ability, he will continue to improve. Similarly, if we put into practice what we have learned in our personal study of the Bible and strive to correct our shortcomings, we will succeed in following the example Jesus set for us.

It helps us to have the determination to follow the reminders and commandments of Jesus. It is necessary that we carefully read the Bible and spend time meditating or reflecting on what we must correct and put it into practice. Although we will not imitate Jesus perfectly, but we will improve little by little.

THE BENEFITS OF SHOWING A SPIRIT OF SACRIFICE

17, 18. What will be the benefits of imitating Jesus' spirit of sacrifice?

His helpful attitude helps the congregation and is a great support for the elders. If we do our best to copy Jesus' spirit of sacrifice, we have Jehovah's approval.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

The spirit of sacrifice is contagious. An elder named Tim explains: “In our congregation, there are very young brothers who have progressed to become ministerial servants in part because they noticed the willing spirit of others and copied their example. His helpful attitude helps the congregation and is a great support for the elders.”

We are moved by the sacrificial spirit of Jesus and are determined to imitate his example. It is true that we cannot do it perfectly, but we can follow “faithfully in his footsteps”. If we do our best to copy Jesus' spirit of sacrifice, we will feel the joy of knowing that we have Jehovah's approval.

It is beneficial because this spirit of sacrifice is contagious. This means that if we have a willing spirit, others will notice us and will also be infected with this attitude and the congregation will be strengthened.

It is also very beneficial because many people today are selfish. Therefore, entering the Kingdom Hall and meeting brothers with this spirit of sacrifice makes us feel joyful and have Jehovah's approval.

ILLUSTRATION:

By copying the sacrificial spirit of Jesus, the elders set a good example for the young. (See paragraph 17). *

WHAT WOULD YOU ANSWER?

In what ways did Jesus serve others?

Jesus put the needs of others above his own, and we Christians do our best to follow his magnificent example.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Jesus helped others even when he was tired.

Jesus was willing to spend time with others. Imagine the situation: Jesus had just found out that his friend John the Baptist had been executed, and he must have felt very sad. The Bible says: "When Jesus received the news, he left there and went out in a boat to a secluded place to be alone." It is understandable that he wanted to be alone. Some people prefer to grieve in private. But that was not going to be possible for Jesus, because a large crowd was already waiting for him in that secluded place.

Jesus served others even when he was tired, and he was willing to give them his time. So we notice that Jesus put the needs of others above his own.

How can we imitate the example of Jesus?

Jesus helped others even when he was tired. A father who arrives at his house very tired and that night has family worship. He is tempted to leave it for another day, but asks Jehovah to give him strength. That night the children learn a valuable lesson: that spiritual things are the most important thing for their parents.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Consider a father who comes home very tired after a long day at work. That night he has family worship. He is tempted to leave it for another day, but asks Jehovah to give him strength. Jehovah answers his prayer, and the family studies together like every week. That night the children learn a valuable lesson: that spiritual things are the most important thing for their parents.

Be willing to help others to share our goods, some ask: "And what do I gain?", but Jesus does not want us to think selfishly but to help and serve others, he will ask us how we use our goods and talents to serve and help others.

For example, householders can imitate Jesus by praying to Jehovah to give them strength to do spiritual activities, even if they are tired. And besides, by doing so they will be a good example for their children.

And also the elderly can imitate the love and compassion of Jesus when they are attentive to the needs of the brothers, whether physical or emotional. There are also brothers who dedicate their time to the construction of Halls or participate in relief work.

What can we do to cultivate the spirit of sacrifice?

Maintain this same mental attitude that Christ Jesus had. A good slave or serf looks for ways to please his master. Since we are slaves of Jehovah and servants of our brothers, we want to be more and more useful to our God and our companions.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Ask yourself, “Am I willing to make personal sacrifices to help others? How do I react, for example, if I am asked to visit an older brother or bring an older sister to meetings? Do I immediately offer to help with the cleanup of an assembly site or the upkeep of the Kingdom Hall?”

If we realize that you need to improve in some area, but you do not feel like it, pray to Jehovah from your heart. He be honest. Tell him how he feels and ask him to give you "both the desire and the strength to act."

Be attentive to the needs of others. The apostle Paul gave this advice in his letter to the Hebrews: “Do not forget to do good or to share what you have with others, because these sacrifices are very pleasing to God.”

Be accessible. Surely there are brothers and sisters in our congregation who are always willing to help others. They never make us feel that we are a burden. On the contrary, we know that we can always count on them, and we want to follow their example.

Something we can do to cultivate it is to pray to Jehovah from the heart so that he gives us the strength and desire to help others. We must also be attentive to the needs of our brothers and sisters and be accessible so that they see that we are at their disposal for whatever is needed.
