Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

Thursday, April 21, 2022

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him constantly ask God, and he will receive it, because he gives generously to all and without reproach (Jas. 1:5).

Satan puts us many temptations to sin. How do we react? It would be easy to justify ourselves by thinking something like: "After all, I'm not going to be expelled for doing this, so it won't be that serious." That way of thinking is totally wrong. It is better for us to ask ourselves questions like the following: “Is Satan using this temptation to divide my heart? If he indulges in evil desires, will I tarnish Jehovah's name? Will this bring me closer to my God, or will it further away from him? Let's reflect on these questions. Let us ask Jehovah for wisdom to answer them honestly, without deceiving ourselves. This will be a real protection. He will help us reject temptation outright, just like Jesus when he said, “Go away, Satan!” (Matt. 4:10). Let us remember that having a divided heart does us no good. w20.06 12, 13 paras. 16, 17

According to Deuteronomy 32:2, 3, what does Jehovah want us to do with his name?

Just before the Israelites entered the Promised Land, Jehovah taught Moses the words of a song and commanded him to teach it to the people (Deut. 31:19). As we ponder some of the lyrics, we see clearly that Jehovah does not want us to hide his name or treat it as if he is too holy to pronounce it (read Deuteronomy 32:2, 3). He wants the whole world to know him. Without a doubt, it was a great honor for the Israelites that Moses taught them about Jehovah and his glorious name. What they learned had a refreshing and strengthening effect on them, like a gentle rain on vegetation. How can we make sure that our way of teaching has the same effect on others?

How do we help keep Jehovah's name holy?

When we preach from house to house or in public places, let us use the Bible to teach people the name of God. We can use tools that honor Jehovah, such as our valuable publications, excellent videos, and our website. Whether we are at work, school, or traveling, let us look for opportunities to talk about our dear God and his personality. Let's talk about the wonderful purpose of it for us and for the Earth. When people hear these things, they may realize for the first time how much Jehovah loves us. Whenever we teach the truth about our loving Father, we help to sanctify his name and debunk some of the slanders that have been taught about him. Nothing has such a refreshing effect on people as the biblical message we bring to them (Isa. 65:13, 14).

When we teach the Bible, why shouldn't we just teach God's rules and laws?

When we teach the Bible, we want to help students know and use Jehovah's name. But we also want them to know what kind of God he is. Will we achieve it if we only teach instructions, divine laws and rules of conduct? Maybe not. It may be that a good student learns what the laws of God are and even comes to admire them. But will he obey Jehovah because he has come to love him? Let us remember the case of Eva. She knew the law of God, but she had no true love for him. And the same can be said of Adam (Gen. 3:1-6). So we should not limit ourselves to teaching God's righteous rules and laws.
