Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2022

I will keep my confidence (Ps. 27:3).

We can learn lessons from the bad examples of those who did not keep calm and trust in Jehovah. Studying those examples will help us not trip over the same stone as them. For example, early in his reign, King Asa looked to Jehovah when he was in trouble. But over time he stopped going to God for his help and preferred to do things his way (2 Chron. 16: 1-3, 12). On the face of it, Asa's idea of asking the Syrians for help in fighting Israel might seem like a good one. But in the long run it didn't work. Jehovah told him through a prophet: “Because you trust in the king of Syria and do not trust in Jehovah your God, the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hands” (2 Chron. 16:7). We too must be careful not to be so confident in our way of doing things that we do not seek Jehovah's help in his Word. Sometimes, we will be presented with situations where we have to make quick decisions. Even so, things will go well for us if we remain calm and trust in Jehovah. w21.01 6 paras. 13-15

According to Philippians 4:6, 7, what can calm our worries?

1) Pray constantly. He will be greatly relieved if he prays earnestly to Jehovah when trouble overwhelms him (1 Pet. 5:7). In answer to his prayers, he will receive “the peace of God, which is beyond what any human being can understand” (read Philippians 4:6, 7). Jehovah uses his mighty holy spirit to calm our anxieties (Gal. 5:22).

What should we keep in mind when praying to God?

When you pray to Jehovah, open your heart wide to him. Be specific: Tell him what the problem is and how it makes you feel. If you have a solution, ask for wisdom to find it and strength to put it into practice. If there is nothing you can do to fix the problem, ask Jehovah to help you not to worry too much. If his prayers are specific, over time he will see more clearly how Jehovah answered them. If the answer is not immediate, do not get tired. Jehovah wants his prayers to be constant, as well as specific (Luke 11: 8-10).

What should we include in our prayers?

When you pray to Jehovah to let off steam, it is important that you also think about all the good things you have despite the problems and thank him for them. There will be times when you will have a hard time finding the right words to express his intense emotions. But remember that Jehovah can answer him even if he can only say: “Please help me!” (2 Chron. 18:31; Rom. 8:26).
