Drawing near to God is good for me (Psalm 73:28).
You can gain peace of mind. How? On the one hand, think about all the good things you have and the treasures in heaven you have accumulated. In contrast, what do those who do not serve Jehovah have? Only what this world offers, and nothing more. All their hopes are placed on what they can gain in this life, not on the future. But Jehovah promises to give us far more than we can imagine. (Psalm 145:16) On the other hand, there is really no way of knowing what your life would have been like if you had made different choices. But there is one thing we do know: those who make choices out of love for Jehovah and their neighbor will never lack anything truly worthwhile. w24.10 27 pars. 12, 13
According to Psalm 73:16-18, what helped the psalmist to think clearly?
(Read Psalm 73:16-18.) The psalmist went to Jehovah’s sanctuary. In that peaceful place, he was able to think clearly. He understood that although some were living comfortable lives, a very dark future awaited them. He saw that putting Jehovah first was the best decision, and this gave him peace of mind and strength to continue serving him. (Psalm 73:23-28)
What situation are some of Jehovah's servants in, and what questions might they be asking themselves?
Some of Jehovah’s servants would like to do more for him, but they are unable to do so because of age, health problems, or a disability. This may lead them to feel unimportant to Jehovah and to wonder, “Am I of any use to him?”
What was the writer of Psalm 71 convinced of?
The writer of Psalm 71 had similar feelings. He said to Jehovah: “When my strength fails, do not abandon me” (Ps. 71:9, 18). But he was convinced that if he served God faithfully, God would guide and support him. He learned that Jehovah is pleased with those who exert themselves to the fullest to serve him despite their limitations (Ps. 37:23-25).
Why do we say that older brothers are very useful to Jehovah? (Psalm 92:12-15)
If you are an older Christian, try to see yourself as Jehovah sees you. Even if you feel that you cannot give much physically, Jehovah can help you to give much spiritually (read Psalm 92:12-15). Instead of dwelling on what you cannot do, try to focus on what you can do. You can strengthen others by your good example and by showing interest in them. You can also tell them how Jehovah has helped you throughout your life and how much you long to see his promises fulfilled. And never forget that your prayers for others are very powerful (1 Peter 3:12). No matter what our circumstances, we can all do things for Jehovah and for others.
