God saw everything he had made, and look, it was all very good (Gen. 1:31).
Parents, encourage your children to look at nature. When walking in the countryside or working the land, point out the amazing patterns in the natural world. These patterns indicate that someone clever and wise must have designed them. For example, scientists have studied the spiral patterns in some natural objects for years. As biophysicist Nicola Fameli explains, counting the number of spirals in these objects reveals a certain pattern or series of numbers, known as the Fibonacci sequence. Many objects in nature have a spiral pattern, such as the shape of some galaxies, the shell of a nautilus, the leaves of some plants, and the heads of sunflowers. w24.12 16 par. 7
What kinds of questions can help children reinforce their belief that there is a Creator?
In science class, your children will learn that there are laws that determine the shape of many things. For example, each snowflake is formed according to geometric patterns called fractals. These patterns are also found in other objects in nature. But who established the laws that produce these beautiful patterns? Who is behind the order and meticulous design we see in nature? If your children frequently ask themselves these kinds of questions, they will most likely become convinced that God created all things (Heb. 3:4). And, in due course, you could ask them: “If God created us, wouldn’t it be logical to believe that he also gave us instructions or guidelines for being happy?” Then you can show them that these valuable instructions are found in the Bible.
For what reasons might children question the value of the Bible's standards?
If your children question the value of Bible standards, try to understand the underlying reason. Is it because they genuinely disagree with those standards? Or is it simply because they don't know how to explain their Christian values when others ask them? In either case, studying the book Enjoy Life will help them appreciate Bible principles.
How can we help our children develop a closer relationship with Jehovah?
Encourage them to develop a closer relationship with Jehovah. When studying the Bible with your children, use the questions and examples in the Enjoy Life book to help them open up and express their opinions (Prov. 20:5). For example, lesson 8 compares Jehovah to a good friend who reminds us what we need to do to ensure our well-being and prevent bad things from happening to us. After discussing 1 John 5:3, you could ask them: “Since Jehovah is such a good friend, how should we view what he asks us to do?” This may seem like a simple question, but it could help your children see God’s laws as evidence of his love (Isa. 48:17, 18).
