Let us examine the Scriptures every day 2026

Children are not supposed to save for their parents, but parents for their children (2 Cor. 12:14).

As parents grow older, they may need their children's help financially and in other ways, and many children do so wholeheartedly (1 Tim. 5:4). However, the greatest joy for Christian parents is helping their children to serve Jehovah, not raising them so that they can later provide for them financially (3 John 4).

Parents, when you help your children prepare to earn a living in the future, be sure to set a good example and teach them to trust in Jehovah. Strive to show them from a young age the importance of hard work (Prov. 29:21; Eph. 4:28). As your children grow up, help them to do their best in school. Look in our publications for Bible principles that can help them make good decisions about their studies. Your goal should be to help your children find a job that will allow them to support themselves and have time to preach more or even pioneer. w25.03 30, 31 pars. 15, 16

What can we do now to have what we need in the future?

Our trust in Jehovah’s hand could also be tested when we make plans for old age. The Bible encourages us to work hard so that we can provide for our material needs in the future (Prov. 6:6-11). It is good, if possible, to save some money for the future. Although money is a protection to some extent, we never want it to be the most important thing in our lives (Eccl. 7:12).

How does Hebrews 13:5 help us when making plans for old age?

Jesus used a comparison to explain that it is useless for someone to accumulate riches if he is “not rich in God’s eyes” (Luke 12:16-21). We do not know what tomorrow will bring (Prov. 23:4, 5; Jas. 4:13-15). Furthermore, Jesus said that all who want to be his disciples must be willing to give up all their possessions (Luke 14:33, footnote). In the first century, Christians in Judea had to do this, and they gladly accepted it (Heb. 10:34). Today, many brothers and sisters have lost their jobs or possessions because they did not support any political party (Rev. 13:16, 17). They have shown that they fully trust in Jehovah’s promise: “I will never leave you and never forsake you” (read Hebrews 13:5). We strive to make plans to provide for our needs in old age and we trust in Jehovah if something happens that was not part of our plans.

What are we convinced of?

Jehovah’s faithful servants have no doubt that he can and wants to provide for their material needs. The closer we get to the end of this system, the more our trust in Jehovah will be tested. But whatever happens, let us have complete confidence that Jehovah will use his power to provide for our needs. We are convinced that his hand will never fall short; it will always reach us wherever we are.
