Make Disciples (5 mins.) lff lesson 19 point 5 (lmd lesson 11 point 4).
Setting: During a Bible study, the publisher reviews with the student that the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses are based on the Bible. Then, using a video, he explains the origin and meaning of the name "Jehovah's Witnesses," and they discuss how they share the truth about God.
Publisher: [Name], today we'll look at point 5. But first, let's briefly review what we've already learned. Do you remember what we base our beliefs on, just as Jesus did?
Assistant: Yes, in the Bible. He taught that the Word of God is the truth.
Publisher: Great! We also saw that, since ancient times, God has had people who spoke about him, and that today we continue to be a global family. Do you remember?
Assistant: Yes, it's not something recent, it's been going on for a long time.
Publisher: Exactly. With that in mind, let's now see how all of this connects to the name we use. In 1931, the name "Jehovah's Witnesses" was adopted because it accurately describes who we are and what we do.
Let's watch this video… (They watch the video “A Name That Identifies Us”). What caught your attention?
Assistant: They were very happy and proud to bear that name.
Publisher: Yes, it's clear they valued it highly. Now tell me, why do you think the name "Jehovah's Witnesses" is appropriate?
Assistant: Because it shows that they serve God and do not follow men like Russell or Rutherford.
Publisher: Exactly. And think about this: Why did Jehovah want to have witnesses? Let me give you an idea: If someone speaks ill of a person who is actually good, what does it take?
Assistant: Let someone who knows her tell the truth.
Publisher: That's right! Since many wrong ideas about God have spread, his witnesses help to make the truth about him known.
Let's look at an example: some religions teach that images should be used to worship God. Is this true? Let's read Leviticus 26:1. What does it say?
Assistant: He says we shouldn't make idols or bow down to them. God is displeased with that.
Publisher: Exactly. Now let's look at another common idea: some say that Jesus is God. Let's read John 20:17. What do you notice?
Assistant: Jesus says he is going up to "his God," so they cannot be the same person.
Publisher: Very good reasoning. Jesus made it clear that he has a God and Father above him. When we explain this using the Bible, we are fulfilling the role of a witness: to make the truth known.
Assistant: Yes, it's like helping others understand better.
Publisher: That's right, and always with respect, without arguing. To conclude, after seeing that there are so many different ideas about God, how does it make you feel to know that Jehovah has sent his Witnesses to teach the truth about him and his Son?
Assistant: It makes me feel good. It gives me peace of mind to know that there are people interested in teaching us the truth of the Bible.
Publisher: I'm so glad to hear that. It gives me a lot of confidence too. Well, that's all for today. In the next lesson, we'll look at point 6: "We love one another."
