Make disciples (5 mins.) Talk with someone who studies the Bible with you but is not progressing (lmd lesson 12 point 5).
Setting: A publisher speaks with a Bible student after a year of study. Tactfully and caringly, he explains that the purpose of the course is to apply Bible principles, such as attending Christian meetings and making life changes. Because the student does not yet feel ready to take these steps, they agree to pause the study, leaving open the possibility of resuming it in the future.
Publisher: Okay, Lili, that concludes today's topic. Before we finish, I'd like to talk to you about something important related to our study.
Assistant: Sure, tell me.
Publisher: As you know, today marks one year since we started studying the Bible together. And I sincerely want to tell you that I truly value your dedication, the kindness with which you always greet me, and the respect you have shown me throughout this time.
But precisely because I care about you, I've been thinking about the purpose of the course. The idea is not just to acquire knowledge, but to apply what we learn to draw closer to Jehovah. There is a Bible passage that highlights a very important step for those who want to advance spiritually. Would you like to read it? It's in Hebrews 10:24, 25.
Assistant: Of course. “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, continuing to meet together, as some are in the habit of doing. Rather, let us encourage one another, especially as you see the Day approaching.”
Publisher: Thank you very much. As we can see, Jehovah encourages us to meet together for spiritual support and to strengthen one another.
And although I've noticed that you enjoy learning from the Bible, I also see that there are still some important steps you haven't been able to take. For example, you haven't yet attended meetings at the Kingdom Hall.
Furthermore, I know that you have also found it difficult to abandon certain religious traditions or customs that the Bible does not approve of.
Therefore, and considering the purpose of the course, I believe it might be best to take a break from studying for a while.
Assistant: I understand what you're saying. It's true, I do find it hard to change some things, and I still don't feel ready to attend the meetings. But I also don't want to stop studying completely.
Publisher: And I understand, Lili. In fact, I would be very happy if we could pick it up again later. The door is still open. It's just that, when we do, it would be important to come prepared to attend meetings and implement the changes the Bible teaches.
But I want you to know something: there's no pressure of any kind. I still care about you just the same, and our friendship remains unchanged. Besides, you're always welcome at the Kingdom Hall whenever you'd like to join us.
And if at any point, whether in a few weeks or later, you feel ready to continue, just let me know and we'll gladly resume the course.
Assistant: Thank you so much for understanding and for all the time you've dedicated to me. I'm going to think seriously about what we discussed and try to make those changes.
