Make Return Visits (4 mins.) INFORMAL PREACHING. Last time the person mentioned that a loved one had recently died (lmd lesson 4 point 4).
Setting: During a previous visit, a person mentioned to the publisher that he had lost a loved one. On a subsequent visit, the publisher offered hope by quoting a Bible text that shows Jehovah has both the power and the desire to bring back to life those who have died.
Publisher: Hi, [Name]. It's so good to see you. I've been thinking about what you told me the other day about your loss. How have you been feeling these past few days?
Assistant: Hi, [Name]... well, there are times when I'm a little better, but the emptiness is still there. Sometimes a memory pops up suddenly... and it hurts a lot.
Publisher: I can imagine… it must be very difficult. Thank you for trusting me and opening your heart to me.
Assistant: Yes… and I also struggle to understand why these things happen. It's not easy to accept.
Publisher: You're right. And the truth is, there are no human words that can completely alleviate such pain. That's why, rather than give you my opinion, I'd like to share something with you that has greatly comforted me, because it comes directly from the Bible. They are promises that have a special power.
Assistant: Oh, really? And what does the Bible say about this? Because one needs something firm to lean on.
Publisher: Sure. Look, if you'd like, let's read a passage. (opens the Bible) It's in John 5:28, 29. Jesus said, “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out.”
Assistant: “They will come out”?… Does that mean they will live again?
Publisher: Yes, that's what He promises. And I'll tell you something in all sincerity: I wouldn't dare say it if it were just my own idea. But, since it's a promise from God, that gives me great peace of mind. He has both the power and the desire to bring them back to life.
Assistant: I'd never seen it that way before… hearing this directly from the Bible feels different.
Publisher: The same thing happened to me the first time. It's not just a nice thought, it's a real promise. And knowing it comes from God makes it much more solid.
Assistant: Yes… it feels like a more concrete hope.
Publisher: Exactly. And something else that's comforting is knowing that God understands our pain. He is not indifferent to what we feel.
Assistant: That helps me… because sometimes it seems like nobody can understand what you're going through inside.
Publisher: That's true. That's why the Bible is so valuable: it not only explains things to us, it also gives us hope to keep going.
Assistant: I wish I could feel that hope more strongly.
Publisher: And it's something that can grow little by little. You don't have to rush. As you learn more about what the Bible says, that hope becomes more real.
Assistant: Thank you, [Name]. Really. This not only cheers me up, but it also gives me food for thought.
Publisher: I'm so glad to hear that. The Bible is precisely there to give us that firm support. If you'd like, another time we can look at another passage that describes what life will be like when these promises are fulfilled, when we can see our loved ones again here on earth.
Assistant: Yes, I would like that very much.
Publisher: Perfect. And thanks again for trusting me, [Name].
Assistant: Thank you for listening and for sharing something so comforting.
