Let us examine the Scriptures every day 2026

Christ suffered for you and thus set an example for you to follow in his footsteps (1 Pet. 2:21).

Jesus gave us a perfect example to follow. Many people treated him unfairly. For example, some of his relatives did not believe that he was the Messiah and said that he had gone mad. Religious leaders accused him of collaborating with demons. And Roman soldiers mocked him, mistreated him, and eventually killed him (Mark 3:21, 22; 14:55; 15:16-20, 35-37). Yet, he endured all this and more without seeking revenge. What can we learn from his example? (1 Peter 2:21-23) Jesus set the best example of how to react to injustice. He knew when to speak up and when to remain silent (Matthew 26:62-64). When some people spread lies about him, he sometimes chose to say nothing (Matthew 11:19). And when he did choose to speak out, he did not insult or threaten his enemies. w24.11 4, 5 pars. 9, 10

What might controlling what we say entail? (See also the images.)

We can imitate Jesus by controlling what we say when we are treated unfairly. If what was done to us is not very serious, we can simply let it go. Or we may choose to remain silent so as not to say anything that could make things worse (Eccl. 3:7; Jas. 1:19, 20). On the other hand, we may need to speak up if we see someone suffering injustice or if we need to stand up for the truth (Acts 6:1, 2). However, we should do our best to speak respectfully and mildly (1 Pet. 3:15).

How can we put ourselves “in the hands of the one who judges justly”?

We can also imitate Jesus by putting ourselves “in the hands of the one who judges righteously.” How? If someone has a wrong idea about us or treats us badly, we trust that Jehovah knows the truth. This confidence helps us to endure injustice because we know that, sooner or later, Jehovah will resolve the situation. When we let him take charge, we avoid being overcome by anger or resentment. These emotions can cause us to overreact, rob us of joy, and damage our friendship with Jehovah. (Psalm 37:8)

What can help us continue to endure injustices?

Of course, it is impossible to perfectly follow Jesus’ example. We may do or say something that we later regret (James 3:2). And some injustices will leave emotional and physical scars that will stay with us as long as this system lasts. If that is your case, remember that Jehovah knows what you are going through. And Jesus, who also suffered many injustices, fully understands your feelings (Hebrews 4:15, 16). In addition to giving us the example of his Son, Jehovah offers helpful counsel in his Word that helps us to react well to injustices. Let us consider two verses from the book of Romans.
