Let us examine the Scriptures every day 2026
Sunday, April 12, 2026
I praise you with all my heart, O Lord my God, and I will give glory to your name forever (Psalm 86:12).
Jehovah is merciful and compassionate (Ps. 103:13; Isa. 49:15). When we suffer, he empathizes with us and is pained by our suffering (Zech. 2:8). He helps us draw close to him and become his friends (Ps. 25:14; Acts 17:27). Furthermore, he is humble and “bends down to look at the heavens and the earth, to raise up the lowly ones from the dust” (Ps. 113:6, 7). Who would not want to give glory to such a wonderful God?
We give glory to Jehovah because we want people to know him. Many have a wrong idea about God. Why? Because Satan has spread terrible lies about him and blinded their minds (2 Cor. 4:4). He has convinced them that Jehovah is vengeful and indifferent and that he is to blame for much of the bad stuff that happens in the world. But we know the truth. And we have the opportunity to help people learn what our God is really like, and thus give him glory (Isa. 43:10). w25.01 3 pars. 6, 7
What is one way to give glory to Jehovah? (Psalm 96:1-3)
(Read Psalm 96:1-3.) We can glorify Jehovah by what we say about him. These verses invite God’s servants to sing to Jehovah, bless his name, proclaim the good news of his salvation, and declare his glory among the nations. All of these are ways to glorify our heavenly Father. Faithful Jews and first-century Christians took every opportunity to defend Jehovah’s name and speak of the good things God had done for them. (Dan. 3:16-18; Acts 4:29) How can we imitate them?
What does the Angelina case teach us?
Let’s consider the case of a sister in the United States named Angelina. She was courageous and stood up for Jehovah’s name at her workplace. As a newly hired employee, she was invited to a meeting where all the new employees had the opportunity to introduce themselves. She prepared a presentation with photographs to show how happy she is as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. However, the colleague who spoke just before her said that he had been raised as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, but he proceeded to mock our beliefs. Angelina says: “I felt like my heart was going to burst. But I asked myself, ‘Am I going to let someone tell these lies about Jehovah, or am I going to stand up for him?’”
When the companion finished, Angelina offered a brief silent prayer. Then, in a friendly manner, she said to him: “We have something in common. I too was raised as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and I still am.” The situation became tense, but she remained calm. She then showed them some nice pictures of spiritual activities she had attended and then tactfully defended her beliefs (1 Pet. 3:15). By the time she finished her presentation, the companion had calmed down and even acknowledged that he too had very special memories of growing up as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Angelina says: “Jehovah deserves our defense of his name. It is a great honor!” For us, too, it is a privilege to praise Jehovah and give him glory, even when others speak ill of him.
How have God's servants throughout history followed the principle found in Psalm 96:8?
(Read Psalm 96:8.) We can glorify Jehovah with our valuable possessions. True servants of God have always honored Jehovah in this way (Prov. 3:9). For example, the Israelites made donations to build and maintain the temple (2 Kings 12:4, 5; 1 Chron. 29:3-9). Some of Christ’s disciples “used their possessions” to care for him and his apostles (Luke 8:1-3). And in the first century, Christians also sent humanitarian aid to their spiritual brothers (Acts 11:27-29). Today, we too can glorify Jehovah by means of our voluntary donations.
