Start conversations (3 mins.) FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE. Use one of the truths in appendix A of the booklet A Work of Love (lmd lesson 3 point 3).
Setting: During house-to-house witnessing, the publisher shares a Bible text with someone that indicates God sees our suffering and wants to help us. Using this text, the publisher offers comfort to the person and leaves open the possibility of a follow-up visit.
Publisher: Good morning. We are sharing a very short thought from the Bible, especially for those going through difficult times.
Assistant: Good morning. Yes, tell me.
Publisher: Thank you so much. Sometimes, when I talk to people, I notice that on the outside they try to keep going, but on the inside they carry a heavy burden: health problems, family worries, anxiety, loneliness… and it's not always easy to talk about it.
Assistant: Yes, that's true. These days almost everyone is dealing with something. Me too.
Publisher: That's right. And the sad thing is that, sometimes, we can feel like no one really understands what we're going through. That's why I'd like to share a very encouraging idea from the Bible: God sees our suffering and wants to help us.
Assistant: It sounds nice, although when one is going through a bad time, sometimes one doesn't feel that God is near.
Publisher: I understand. When someone is distressed, tired, or discouraged, comfort doesn't always come immediately. But consider what Isaiah 41:10 says: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Assistant: It's a very beautiful text.
Publisher: It is, because it doesn't sound cold or distant. It doesn't simply say "hold on" or "this too shall pass," but something much closer: "I will give you strength, I will help you, I will sustain you." It's as if God were telling us: "I know you are suffering, I see it, and I will not leave you alone."
Assistant: Honestly, that's quite comforting.
Publisher: I'm glad to hear from you. And in all honesty, I may not know exactly what you're going through, but God understands it better than anyone. The Bible shows that He is not indifferent to human suffering.
Assistant: That gives you a lot to think about.
Publisher: That's right. And it not only promises to help us cope with difficulties, but also explains why we suffer and what it will do very soon to end that suffering. That message has brought peace to many people.
Assistant: I'd like to know more about that.
Publisher: With pleasure. If you'd like, I can come back another time and share another short text that shows why we can be sure that God truly wants to help us.
Assistant: Sure, you can come back another day and we'll see.
Publisher: Perfect. Thank you very much for your time.
