I must also proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to other cities, because that is why I was sent (Luke 4:43).
Jesus enthusiastically preached “the good news of the Kingdom” because he knew that this was what God wanted him to do. For Jesus, this work was his priority in life. Even during the last months of his ministry, he traveled “from city to city and from village to village teaching the people” (Luke 13:22). He also trained more disciples to go and preach like him (Luke 10:1).
Today, preaching the good news remains the primary work that Jehovah and Jesus want us to do (Matt. 24:14; 28:19, 20). One thing that will help us to feel more zealous for the preaching work is to see people as Jehovah sees them. He wants as many as possible to hear and accept the good news (1 Tim. 2:3, 4). Since this message can save their lives, Jehovah wants to help us to be more skillful in how we deliver it. Even if they do not accept the message now, they may have an opportunity to do so before the great tribulation ends. w25.03 15, 16 pars. 5-7
In what ways does preaching relate to any assignment we may have?
All the work we do for Jehovah is directly related to the preaching work. For example, we build Kingdom Halls so that those we preach to can go there to worship Jehovah. All the work done at Bethel and similar locations supports the preaching work. And we participate in relief efforts so that the brothers and sisters not only have what they need but can also resume their spiritual activities, including preaching. Let us always keep in mind that preaching is the most important work Jehovah wants us to do. This will strengthen our desire to preach as much as possible. An elder in Hungary named János says: “I always remind myself that no spiritual activity can replace preaching. That is our primary assignment.”
What effect did knowing the prophecies have on Jesus?
Jesus knew how Bible prophecies would be fulfilled, and so he knew that his ministry would last only three and a half years (Dan. 9:26, 27). He was also aware of how and when he would die, because it was foretold (Luke 18:31-34). Knowing the prophecies made Jesus eager to use his time wisely, preaching with zeal to finish the work God had entrusted to him.
Why do Bible prophecies motivate us to preach with enthusiasm?
Understanding Bible prophecy can motivate us to preach with zeal. We know that this system has little time left. We see current events and people's attitudes, and we realize that this is how the Bible foretold the last days. We understand how the prophecy about the conflict "in the time of the end" between the king of the south (i.e., the United Kingdom and the United States) and the king of the north (i.e., Russia and its allies) (Dan. 11:40) is being fulfilled. We also understand that the feet of the statue in the prophecy of Daniel 2:43-45 represent the world power formed by the United Kingdom and the United States. Our study of this passage convinces us that very soon the Kingdom of God will destroy human governments. All these prophecies indicate where we are in history and make us want to preach with urgency.
