Let's examine the Scriptures every day 2025

Clothe yourselves with love, for it is a perfect bond of union (Col. 3:14).

How can we express the love we feel for our spiritual family? One way is by comforting our brothers and sisters. And to continue doing so, we need to feel compassion (1 Thess. 4:18). How can we keep our love for one another strong? By doing our best to forgive each other’s mistakes. Why is it so important to show love to one another today?

Consider what Peter said: “The end of all things has drawn near. Therefore, . . feel intense love for one another.” (1 Pet. 4:7, 8) What can we expect to happen as the end draws near? Speaking of his disciples, Jesus foretold: “All nations will hate you because of my name.” (Matt. 24:9) To continue serving Jehovah even though we are hated, we must remain united. Satan wants to divide us, but he will not succeed if we love one another. (Phil. 2:1, 2) w23.11 13 pars. 18, 19

According to 1 Peter 4:8, what kind of love do we need? Give an example.

Let's analyze Peter's words in detail. The first part of verse 8 tells us the kind of love we should have: "intense love." The Greek word Peter used for "intense" literally means "that which extends." The second part of the verse speaks of what that intense love accomplishes: it covers the sins of our brothers and sisters. It's as if love were a cloth that one could stretch and stretch until it covers not just one or two sins, but "a multitude of sins." In this context, to cover means "to forgive." Just as a piece of cloth can cover a stain, love can cover the weaknesses and imperfections of others.

What do we achieve when our love for others is strong? (Colossians 3:13).

The love we have for our brothers and sisters should be so great that we are able to forgive their mistakes, even if it seems very difficult to do so (read Colossians 3:13). When we are able to forgive others, we show that our love is strong and that we want to please Jehovah. What else can help us to overlook the mistakes and irritating things of others?

What else can help us overlook other people's small mistakes? Give an example.

Focus on the good things about others, not the bad. Let's say you're having a nice time with a group of siblings, and at the end, you decide to take a group photo. To make sure you have a good memory, you take three photos. But you notice that in one of them, one sibling doesn't look their best. What will you do with that photo? Delete it and keep the other two, because in those, everyone is smiling.

The photos we keep are like memories. We usually have fond memories of the pleasant times we spent with our brothers. But suppose that on one of those occasions a brother said or did something wrong. What will you do with that memory? Why not erase it as if it were a photograph? (Prov. 19:11; Eph. 4:32) Since we have so many good memories of the times we spent with that brother, we can easily erase the memory of his minor mistake. It is best to cherish the “pretty photos.”
