Start conversations (2 mins.) PUBLIC PREACHING. Talk about the end of war and violence (lmd lesson 1 point 4).
Setting: During a public preaching service, the publisher offers a Watchtower magazine to someone. The person accepts the publication because she is interested in the topic of a world without war. She expresses concern about why there is so much violence and war everywhere. The publisher takes the opportunity to share what the Bible says on the subject and emphasizes that only Jehovah can put an end to war and violence.
Publisher: Hello, would you like any publications? They're free.
Assistant: Yes, this Watchtower caught my attention: "A world without wars and armed conflicts is possible." I've been wondering why there's so much violence and so many wars everywhere.
Publisher: Okay, you can take that one. It's a very interesting topic. The Bible teaches that it is God, not humans, who will end the wars and violence in the world. Look at Psalm 46:9: "He puts an end to wars throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns chariots with fire."
Assistant: Why are you sure of that?
Publisher: We are confident that God will fulfill his promise to end war and violence because he can and will do so. Nothing is impossible for him. Furthermore, he hates to see people suffer and despises anyone who loves violence. When his Kingdom rules the earth, the tragic consequences of war—not only the physical wounds but also the mental and emotional anguish caused by its atrocities—will disappear. Families will be reunited, and the heartbreaking memories of war will be a thing of the past.
Assistant: That sounds interesting.
Publisher: What do you think if we talk about this topic another day?
Assistant: Yes, that's fine with me, because I'm a bit rushed right now. I'll stop by next Tuesday.
Publisher: Excellent. I'd be happy to continue discussing this important topic with you next Tuesday.
