Let's Examine the Scriptures Every Day 2025

The day of the Lord will come (1 Thess. 5:2).

We need to be calm and steady. Why? Because it is very easy to get entangled in the political and social affairs of this world. Furthermore, as Jehovah's day draws near, the pressure to take sides on these issues will increase. But we don't have to worry about how to respond because God's Spirit will give us calm and steady, helping us to make good decisions. (Luke 12:11, 12) w23.06 10 pars. 6, 7.

In what sense are almost all people asleep? (1 Thessalonians 5:6, 7)

“Those who are asleep” (Read 1 Thessalonians 5:6, 7). Paul said that those who will not survive the day of Jehovah are like those who are asleep. When a person is asleep, they are unaware of their surroundings or how time passes. They also fail to perceive the significance of certain events or to react appropriately. The same thing happens spiritually: most people are asleep (Rom. 11:8). They ignore the evidence that we are living in “the last days” and that the great tribulation is very near.

When great changes occur in the world, some people open their eyes a little and become interested in the message of the Kingdom. But many of them are only briefly interested, and they quickly fall asleep again. There are even those who believe in a day of judgment, but it seems a long way off (2 Pet. 3:3, 4). We, on the other hand, know that the advice to stay awake is more important every day that passes.

In what sense are the people whom God will eliminate like drunkards?

“Those who are drunk.” The apostle Paul compared the people God will eliminate to drunkards. A drunkard loses some of his ability to react and makes bad decisions. Similarly, the wicked do not respond to God’s warnings and choose a lifestyle that leads to their destruction. But the apostle advises Christians to maintain sound judgment, to be sober, not drunk (1 Thess. 5:6).

A Bible scholar says that being sober means having "a calm and stable disposition that weighs and calculates matters well, enabling us to make the right decision." But why do we need to be calm and stable? Because it's very easy to get caught up in the political and social affairs of this world.

Furthermore, as Jehovah's day approaches, the pressure to take sides on these issues will increase. But we don't have to worry about how to respond because God's Spirit will calm and stabilize us and help us make good decisions. (Luke 12:11, 12)
